Malcolm, is Scott really out of BC? I thought the USA. I was a major distributor of WS commercial paper products in Alberta when the sale went down. Scott was very quick to make changes to the distibution network. It is relatively difficult to find the WS name and logo in the field today but there are still the odd places that it pops up.
I'm familiar with most of the mills (including the closed ones) and converters in Canada and the USA. The Saint John mill at Reversing Falls had long had serious odour control problems. I recall that from my first visit to the mill in the late 70's. I think most mills in Canada have seriously curtailed their bleaching operations. The environmental concerns eventually put significant pressure on all of them to find alternatives.
Growing up in the south end of Ottawa I'm also pretty familiar with the air currents that used to blow from the north and the old Eddy plant. There were easily ten days a month when the morning air was pretty blue with the odours from the mill.
