I know next-to-nothing about vehicular imports but I would assume they are subject to taxes and/or duty like anything else. What you should NOT have paid is a California state tax unless you reside in California. I would ask the seller about that, although it is possible I am mistaken. What payment method did you use to secure the purchase?
