Sales Tax?

Purchased a few items from a Canadian seller and during the checkout I noticed that there was

a tax charged on top of my total.

At first I thought it was because my default shipping address is in Washington but I changed that to my canadian address and the tax still shows.  Not sure what's going on here.

Sales Tax?

What province is the seller in and what province are you in?

It's about 1% of the product value-- which doesn't sound like any Canadian tax to me.

And about 25% of the shipping.

It may be the new 'internet sales tax' US sellers are getting all hot and bothered about.

This was a US dollar purchase on dotCOM delivered to a US address?

Your address change wouldn't make any difference.

Sales Tax?

ebay is collecting sales tax for Washington state starting January 1, 2019

https://www.ebay.com/help/selling/fees-credits-invoices/taxes-import-charges?id=4121#section4

That said, $3 is only 1% of your total and the Washington state sales tax rate is 6.5%

Now your cart image says 3 items, so perhaps some are tax free?

Check the seller's listings to see if they collect GST.

If they do collect sales tax, check to see if any items are tax exempt.

If they do not collect sales tax, then this will be an ebay software problem.

...

As a side note, this will hit the buying habits of anyone using a mail box in a taxed State to get around the cost of mailing to Canada. The savings will get a lot smaller.

Sales Tax?

I've noticed that when switching addresses at checkout, I sometimes need to log-out and back in again to get the new address to 'take' and show me the proper postage option.
