Ms Stairs is quoted at the end of this article. If I had a twitter account, I’d have known sooner than today that she’s been working towards a goal of reducing the impact of this postal problem on eBay sellers for weeks now.

“Parliamentarians are making arrangements for extended sitting hours to quickly pass legislation to end the rotating Canada Post strikes.

“Senate sources confirmed to Global News that the Red Chamber has passed a rare motion to sit on both Saturday and Sunday in order to deal with back-to-work legislation tabled by the Liberals on Thursday morning.”

This is kind of a big deal. Really.

Negotiation means both groups, Canada Post and the Postal Union,  put forward ways to settle the dispute.

Negotiation is not a one-way discussion.

Back to work legislation does not mean negotiation ends......

I think that with what is happening now there is a fighting chance we can still turn this around in time to save Christmas; I think package movement can be restored in sufficient time to get people what they need for the holidays but the big challenge will be restoring the shopping public’s faith in delivery by Christmas.

Restoring confidence will be the lynchpin on which all hope for small online sellers is based.

This is an interesting and unique yet unfortunate situation where a big Canadian business is suffering a 90 percent downturn in their holiday sales because their catalogues (that special class of magazine or ad lettermail type mail or whatever it is called) cannot reliably be delivered to its customers so they can shop and place orders.

I don’t garden anymore but I used to be a huge fan of Veseys. Also, I wondered if I overlooked my Lee Valley catalogue this year, or where it went.

When I have the opportunity to read an actual newspaper or magazine or browse a proper catalogue, I will always take it over reading on a screen. Screenreading hurts my eyes and feels like work whereas looking at a catalogue in my hands feels like quality relaxation time. Confessions of a small online seller.

This is an editorial view of the strike. This cartoon option has highlighted many well known people, including people such as Trudeau,  Trump, and other well known persons.

This puts online sellers into an "important" situation that must be viewed in a critical manner.

----------------------------

Also from the Winnipeg Free Press..... Friday, November 23, 2018 .......

"Labour Minister Patty Haydu said Thursday the move to put an end to the Postal strikes won't interfere with CUPW and Canada Post's efforts to come to a fair agreement"

"Online Marketplace eBay. which welcomed the legislation said Thursday it has seen its smaller sellers squeezed out in favour of larger ones that are more able to afford alternative, often more expensive, shipping services while the postal dispute drags on."

and also.....

....."The disproportionate negative impact on Canadian small business is why eBay Canada has been leading efforts to encourage the government to intervene and restore Canada Post Service,"  eBay Canada general manager Andrea Stairs said in a statement .....

-------------------------------------

In 2011 the Government ended the postal strike because of the effect of the Postal strike on all  Canadians.  The effect on online small business was not mentioned

In 2018, the significant effect of the postal strike on small business is acknowledged.  This effect on Canadian small business must be addressed, with the understanding that such an effect should not have occurred.

CUPW has the right to express its unhappiness with the back to work legislation...  However, they must acknowledge the negative  effect of the strike on Canadian small business.  Back to work legislation  has been introduced in order to end this negative effect on small business.

CUPW  can fight to get what it wants.  However, in 2018, one must conclude that this fight  should not interfere with small business.

eBay has stepped forward and introduced CUPW to the online world  of 2018.   CUPW must acknowledge their "fight" is with Canada Post and not with small business, whether it be Canadian sellers on eBay, or online sellers elsewhere.

The online world has changed dramatically since 2011.

Online sellers  must "fight" for their right to sell without any measure of interference,  such as that created by CUPW in 2018.

Like I keep saying, the small business owner is the party least able to withstand being squeezed. Small businesses support families. Owners work day and night. They don’t pay themselves overtime or have vacations or vacation pay. Or health benefits. Or stockpiles of savings. Many if not most live hand-to-mouth and hope for the best.

I love my lettercarrier and I can see he is a hardworking man, I don’t begrudge him anything in this.

But I couldn’t suffer in silence any more than I already had. These are dark times and small online sellers cannot afford to sit quietly and not complain about being collateral damage in this fight that’s not ours in the making.

Another example of a small business who depends on online sales at Christmas suffering as a result of the rotating strikes due to postal dispute. ‘It’s killing us.’

The Canadian Federation of independent Business has 110,000 members.

Two-thirds of those members have been hurt by the postal strike.

That has been  an average  dollar value of $3,000 for  each business hurt by the strike..

The total loss due to the postal strike is $217,800,000.... This is collateral damage created by the strike.

Should this be what CUPW owes these businesses?

CUPW must  wake up to this reality... Postal strike, never again...

I feel as if the union leadership bends over backwards to make every bad situation worse for themselves.

Also. The Manitoba Teacher’s Society is arguably the strongest, most influential union in our province. Manitoba teachers are subject to binding arbitration. Right to strike does not automatically equal strong union. Strong leadership equals strong union.

Normally I get my Airmile coupons in the mail just before they're about to expire. Now can look forward to them after they expire. Now, when I check my community mailbox, seems the only thing that's in there are coupons for KFC, sell your house and furnace cleaning.

I live in a townhouse complex in Ladner (Delta) B.C. and we have a community mailbox.

Early last week, I discovered a banded half dozen letters and 2 small packages in the box hanging outside my front door.
Don't know who put them there... post carrier or neighbor that received my mail?
I was home all that day, nobody attempted contact, and have a community mailbox.

My community mailbox has been empty for over a week since.
When I check the tracking numbers of 13 other items, the IDs all say "Delivery attempted", "Notice card left indicating where and when to pick up item", "In transit to pickup location", and then "Available for pickup".

At the stated times of "Delivery attempted" for all of these items, I was outside in my front yard or in my driveway.
There are no 'notice cards' left indicating 'where and when to pick up item' for any of the items.

A day later, there are still no 'Notice cards' and the Post Office still doesn't have the items the carrier claims 'Delivery attempted' and are now at the post office.

As a side note, 22 items eBay I purchased on eBay are over a week overdue.
Has eBay done anything to protect eBay sellers from INR cases beyond their control.
I'm sure there are many, many examples such as the 22 I alone am experiencing.

I don't have much sympathy for either party involved in this dispute.

Members of CUPW have occupied the offices of several MP's in Ottawa and a few other cities in Ontario.

The end is close with a back to work order.

However,  this end may not be ... pretty...

The reality that postal workers have confronted MP's about their upcoming vote puts CUPW into a difficult situation.
