Different values in Sales records vs Transaction details?

I'm still very new to selling on eBay so fingers crossed the community can help make sense of this discrepancy. My last two sales have been processed through the new payment system but there seems to be a chunk missing from each sale that shows up when comparing the Sales records and the Transaction details. Both sales were shipped to the USA from Canada and paid in USD intended for my Canadian bank account.

-The first item shows the buyer paid a total of about $419 CAD in the Sales records screen under the Orders tab.

-In the Transaction details screen under the Payments tab the order total shows about $385 CAD.

When I got my payout it looked like there was around $30 to $35 missing from the transaction I couldn't make sense of. Called eBay and the woman on the phone couldnt really explain the different order totals either. After talking to a few specialist she said something about different exchange rates between eBay and banks. Non of it made sense and she didnt seem to understand it clearly either. I asked her how to avoid this problem in the future and after talking to a specialist she said to open a bank account in american funds which seemed kind crazy.

Now I've sold something else that was paid in USD then shipped to USA. I'm awaiting payment as the funds are on hold till the item arrives. Unfortunately the buyer has paid and there appears to be the same problem.

-On this second item the Sales record under the Orders tab shows the buyer paid about $386 CAD.

-In the Transaciton details under the Payments tab the order total shows about $359 CAD.

Can anyone clearly explain why the two order totals seem to be different or how to avoid this problem?

Also I was told by eBay phone support that after selling $250 worth of stuff my account would allow funds to be available once tracking numbers were added. Now I've sold over $250 but my funds are still on hold till the item arrives in spite of the tracking number clearly showing. Then there's the extra 1-3 days on the banks end after the hold is released. How quickly do most of you get payouts after the buyer pays?

Thanks a lot for the help.

I only see listings for you on .ca so you would have been paid in $C, not $US.   If your payout is in $C there is no currency conversion on your end so the discrepancy has nothing to do with currency exchange.  A seller is always paid in the currency that they list in,  if the buyer pays in another currency, they pay the conversion fees.

I haven't had a US transaction yet in MP but my guess is that the money is tax that the buyer paid and that eBay is required to collect. eBay takes the tax and submits it to the state so although the tax would show in the total paid, you do not receive that portion.   You should be able to go to the payout tab in sellers hub to see the breakdown of what you received.

I assume that you know that the eBay fvf fees are taken out before you receive the money.  Since the fvf is charged on the total paid, you also pay fvf on any taxes paid.

Your order page shows how much your buyer paid (item + shipping + any local sales tax that ebay or you collect)

The transaction summary shows a sales total that excludes any local sales tax ebay had to collect from the buyer.

https://www.ebay.ca/sh/fin/transactions

The transaction details will show you the fee calculations for a sale.

Details for a payout will show you the items that went into that payout.

Example:

Recent order had 13.00 for the purchase + 21.28 shipping + 2.82 in ebay collected tax

Order sales record shows US buyer paid $37.10

Payment details shows $34.28 amount minus 2.40 ebay fees = $31.88 net

Net is what gets paidout to the seller.

37.10 minus taxes collected by ebay = 34.28
