CP has been turned off as an option.

I just received an order for Kamloops....1 to 2 days normal delivery. eBay has pre-emptively turned off CP as a shipping option even tho customer was permitted to choose that option. To ship with UPS would be more and a major inconvenience. Unsure why they would jump the gun on a Tuesday. When strike starts on Friday. Even next day delivery would be very likely if it is staying in the same province/city.

Note: Item is too heavy for letter mail.

I had the same thing happen to me. I got an order overnight for the US. Even with the looming strike I would have had no problem sending it as they usually cross the border in 1-2 days. I tried this morning to make a label but CP was no longer an option on eBay. It was too expensive to send with UPS so I had to make the label with CP Snap Ship. I have now put my store on time away.

Chitchat also stopped CP service.

From their blog/newsletter:

In preparation for the potential Canada Post strike and to ensure uninterrupted service for our clients, we will be disabling all domestic services that rely on the Canada Post network as of today, May 20 at 5 PM EST / 2 PM PST and all Canada Post-based U.S. services as of the end of the day tomorrow, May 21.

It would have been awesome if we would have been advised of this early randomly disabling of CP even though customer could pay based on the CP discounted rates and eBay Labels.

Was able to ship mine via EST. According to the agent I spoke to Snapship & EST have been intermittent all day. Ended up losing a couple of bucks only due to bad ebay math for combined multiple shipping. On the bright side it was very nice to get detailed receipt with GST. No PST

This is so typical of eBay. Changing the platform for sellers, without the slightest hint of warning. 😡

FWIW- I often use discount stamps* and get an Expedited label at the PO.

Which is what I did today.

The clerk did warn me that the shipment might or might not make Montreal (from Vancouver Island) in time for the stated delivery date.

In fairness, none of us unconnected to Canada Post management or CUPW knew if or when job action was going to resume or what it would look like until yesterday, and that was a holiday, to boot.

Having said that, a warning of what could happen in the event that strike-notice was given would have been useful.

Its ridiculous that I can have a buyer pay for shipping by CP but I can't select the option because its disabled.  If you are going to disable it, the disable it.  No warning by eBay of course, the usual eBay showing Sellers how much they hate them.

Received an order from an ON customer a few hours before CUPW issued their strike notice.

When I messsaged the customer to see if he wished to cancel the order he replied that he was OK with a possible delay and to go ahead with mailing the item.

At that time ebay's alternatives to Canada Post for shipping a blu-ray from CowTown to Toronto were $19.97 for UPS Standard and $24.67 for FedEx ground.  Presumably the cost of sending the same item to a more remote Canadian location would be far higher, or perhaps not available.

I think they did the right thing and the marginal sale is not worth the risk of shipping through CP, you're pushing your luck trying to squeeze a sale in the last few days before an announced strike. I changed all my listings to UPS Standard for domestic shipping starting this Monday. It resulted in generally slightly cheaper costs (at least for major cities) other than what used to be shipped through CPC Expedited Lite (which is typically sub-$10 coast to coast).

I have an eBay purchase from HK (HK Post EMS) that will likely be stuck at the Mississauga Gateway for the foreseable future, not a big deal nor a rush, but it is what it is.

Although eBay has disabled its (often discounted) CPO labels, they are still available through Shipshape, Canada Post, and Shippo.

The price might not be as good, although your Solutions for Small Business account with CPO does gives discounts too.
