CP has been turned off as an option.

I just received an order for Kamloops....1 to 2 days normal delivery. eBay has pre-emptively turned off CP as a shipping option even tho customer was permitted to choose that option. To ship with UPS would be more and a major inconvenience. Unsure why they would jump the gun on a Tuesday. When strike starts on Friday. Even next day delivery would be very likely if it is staying in the same province/city.

Note: Item is too heavy for letter mail.

I had the same thing happen to me. I got an order overnight for the US. Even with the looming strike I would have had no problem sending it as they usually cross the border in 1-2 days. I tried this morning to make a label but CP was no longer an option on eBay. It was too expensive to send with UPS so I had to make the label with CP Snap Ship. I have now put my store on time away.

Chitchat also stopped CP service.

From their blog/newsletter:

In preparation for the potential Canada Post strike and to ensure uninterrupted service for our clients, we will be disabling all domestic services that rely on the Canada Post network as of today, May 20 at 5 PM EST / 2 PM PST and all Canada Post-based U.S. services as of the end of the day tomorrow, May 21.

It would have been awesome if we would have been advised of this early randomly disabling of CP even though customer could pay based on the CP discounted rates and eBay Labels.

Was able to ship mine via EST. According to the agent I spoke to Snapship & EST have been intermittent all day. Ended up losing a couple of bucks only due to bad ebay math for combined multiple shipping. On the bright side it was very nice to get detailed receipt with GST. No PST

This is so typical of eBay. Changing the platform for sellers, without the slightest hint of warning. 😡

Re: CP has been turned off as an option.

FWIW- I often use discount stamps* and get an Expedited label at the PO.

Which is what I did today.

The clerk did warn me that the shipment might or might not make Montreal (from Vancouver Island) in time for the stated delivery date.

In fairness, none of us unconnected to Canada Post management or CUPW knew if or when job action was going to resume or what it would look like until yesterday, and that was a holiday, to boot.

Having said that, a warning of what could happen in the event that strike-notice was given would have been useful.

Re: CP has been turned off as an option.

Its ridiculous that I can have a buyer pay for shipping by CP but I can't select the option because its disabled.  If you are going to disable it, the disable it.  No warning by eBay of course, the usual eBay showing Sellers how much they hate them.

Re: CP has been turned off as an option.

Received an order from an ON customer a few hours before CUPW issued their strike notice.

When I messsaged the customer to see if he wished to cancel the order he replied that he was OK with a possible delay and to go ahead with mailing the item.

At that time ebay's alternatives to Canada Post for shipping a blu-ray from CowTown to Toronto were $19.97 for UPS Standard and $24.67 for FedEx ground.  Presumably the cost of sending the same item to a more remote Canadian location would be far higher, or perhaps not available.

Re: CP has been turned off as an option.

I think they did the right thing and the marginal sale is not worth the risk of shipping through CP, you're pushing your luck trying to squeeze a sale in the last few days before an announced strike. I changed all my listings to UPS Standard for domestic shipping starting this Monday. It resulted in generally slightly cheaper costs (at least for major cities) other than what used to be shipped through CPC Expedited Lite (which is typically sub-$10 coast to coast).

I have an eBay purchase from HK (HK Post EMS) that will likely be stuck at the Mississauga Gateway for the foreseable future, not a big deal nor a rush, but it is what it is.

Re: CP has been turned off as an option.

Although eBay has disabled its (often discounted) CPO labels, they are still available through Shipshape, Canada Post, and Shippo.

The price might not be as good, although your Solutions for Small Business account with CPO does gives discounts too.

If you have something to ship this is the current message one would see if they try to buy signed in to dot com:

Due to the anticipated Canada Post strike, packages shipped with postal operators globally like USPS, Royal Mail, AU Post are likely to be impacted by the strike. As a result, shipments to Canada cannot be created using these services until further notice. eBay International Shipping & Global Shipping Program are not impacted by Canada Post strike as a variety of carriers are used for delivery of packages using these programs.

This is the message you see if you try to purchase on ca with CP options disabled.

Canada Post workers begin strike actions on May 23 at 12:01am ET. To avoid delays in delivery, we encourage you to use a shipping service from an alternative carrier. [FR] Postes Canada pourrait connaître des interruptions de service dès le 23 mai 2025. Pour assurer la livraison de vos colis dans les délais, songez à offrir des services d'expédition d'autres transporteurs.

Unfortunately or still ebay is still permitting buyers to pay for non accessible CP labels at the discounted rates. This needs to be corrected immediately. Notice the difference in wording.

For a recent order the available UPS option is 2.5 times more. Fedex is 3 times more.

Since Canada Post is still open, it would be great if eBay would enable us to purchase labels. Due to our inability to purchase Canada Post shipping labels through eBay, we have decided to put our store on Time Away.

As soon as I saw that, I put my store on "Time Away"...

When you process a shipment(stamps on the box) in the way noted above, which account number are you using? Your personal SSB #, eBay CP account # or counter rates?

As a side, after to speaking to a counter clerk they stated that if when weighing of a parcel originally is underweight, applying additional postage is not permitted. Only option is to void and create a new label.

Oh, I am 👀.

I'm just realistic, and not too hopeful. Haven't seen much change to the status quo, so far.

I also put my store on time away after I couldn't print a label and lost $25 on shipping charges due to having limited options in my area:(

The eBay CP discount only applies to labels you buy through eBay.

When doing stamps on the package I use my SfSB account. I also use it to find my ship cost via the Canada Post website so I know how many stamps to apply. Sales tax is excluded when determining how many face value stamps to use (P's are currently worth $1.24).  Or if you are not worried about being exact, you can put a set value of stamps on the package and have Canada Post charge you for the difference (sales tax is added to the difference).  If you have too many stamps you will not get a refund.

I write the total value of the stamps on the package (so the clerk does not need to count all the stamps).

Also best to leave some space on the parcel for the Canada Post label to be put.

Works best for those folk who like postage stamps...
