I am confused about selling ebooks on ebay

I design and sell cross stitch charts on other platforms. The research I have done indicates I must list ebooks for sale on ebay under Everything Else. However, I see many designers listing under Cross Stitch Charts. They are offering a printed copy, to be mailed, and a PDF version to be emailed.

Is this an acceptable way of listing PDFs? I will make a print version available if necessary in order to avoid that Everything Else category. But I would want to charge a lot to compensate me for printing the chart out, and handling it for mailing.

How much is "a lot"?

I think the paper copy would mail for 92c (under 30 gr.) Then there is your time (23c a minute is BC's minimum wage) (but you only have to make the copy printable once) and the copy paper and envelope. The address would have to be hand written and Letter Post has no tracking. Two dollars ? Three?

If you think you want to be compensated for this, offering Free Shipping and putting the costs of the hardcopy into the asking price would be the way to go. How much would this raise the cost of each ebook?

I agree that avoiding the "everything else" would be good, but most people Search by Title or keywords, not by category.

How much would you be charging for the pattern e-book?

Is this a popular format with cross-stitchers?

Neither LetterPost nor digital are trackable, and therefore you must accept that you will lose any "not received" disputes. So add Cookie Jar Insurance to your costs.

OTOH, my experience with sewing patterns is that the customer is used to reading instructions and will follow them, so we are better off than someone selling, say, a digital videogame key.

No advice just more questions.

Well, that's what I decided to do. List two variations: PDF and print. The cost of the print version is twice that of the PDF, but it ships "free." Will see what happens, if anything!
