I've been selling in the Collectables & Art/Stamps category for just over 10 years now and am in the "Top Seller" category with good ratings. I sell only auction-style and am limited to 250 listings per month, the common amount for all sellers without an "Ebay Store" subscription. I recently received notice that my selling limit has been increased to $5 million (!).
I recently messaged Ebay to request a permanent increase in zero insertion fee auction-style listings from 250 to at least 500. This was denied. The only way I can get to this amount is by subscribing to an Ebay "Premium Store" package at a cost of $60 per month. This would allow 500 auction listings and 10,000 fixed price listings. I only want auction listings.
I'm confused as to why Ebay would increase my sales limit to five million dollars, which is a ridiculous amount, but no increase in the listings limit. Also, why are there listings limits? Does Ebay not earn money through every sale we make? And why does a subscription to Premium Store give only a paltry 500 auction listings while upping the fixed-price listings to a whopping 10,000?
The online Ebay rep advised me to keep a lookout for the occassional promotion that add an extra 250 free listings per month. So they offer this incentive once in a while. Why not just do away with the caps completely? Is the business of selling "store" packages so lucrative versus eliminating subscriptions completely? If not this policy makes absolutely no sense to me.
Remove the limits, let sellers sell and everybody earns more.

In what way are you "limited to 250 listings"?
I looked at most of your sold items, ther vast majority are getting only one bid, a smattering get 2 bids and just a couple get any more. It doesn't look like actions are actually working that well for you.

Thanks for the response.
Should have said 250 zero-fee auction listings. You make a good point about the low bids, I should perhaps switch over to fixed-price for more items and keep the auction-style for lots that have a bigger draw for bids. Maybe the Basic Ebay store is for me, 250 auction-style and 1,000 fixed price for just under $30/mo.
Your points and a few others I've received via PM have me thinking I might be falling into the "I do it this way because I've always done it this way" mind trap!
