Purchase and print FedEx shipping labels directly on eBay Labels

For anyone that hadn't spotted todays announcement, it is now possible to purchase FEDEX labels from within eBay. In checking with their shipping labels team the labels are not tied to a shipping calculator but do offer substantial savings.

  • Enjoy discounts of up to 50% off FedEx Express® services, and up to 35% off FedEx Ground® services.

Unable to confirm if there are residential pickup charges or if items have to be dropped off at either a Fedex depot or can be dropped off at site like Staples. From past experience Staples will take air shipment but not  ground shipments. They have to be dropped off at Fedex depot. Not convenient for everyone.

From the labels team received  the following additional information:

Offering FedEx services via Calculated shipping is a feature we hope to launch soon. Totally agree on the significant fluctuation in shipping rates across Canada or internationally. While we work to enable this feature, you could utilize eBay shipping rate tables to customize your shipping prices in Canada for each province. It could help as a short term workaround, though far from ideal.

It’s mostly a matter of prioritization with our global engineering organization which supports all regions. I completely agree that we have a long way to go with improving the shipping experience specifically on eBay.ca. And we’re committed in executing on our plans to get there. The reality is that this will take some time.

(I passed on your original email to our engineering team). Hope we’ll be able to share some good news here very soon.

If you don't use your own FedEx account there will be mystery supplemental fees and you won't be able to do a thing about them even if your complaint is legitimate.

If you have a loss or damage eBay will tell you to work it out with FedEx and Fedex will tell you that it's eBay's account and you have to deal with them

FYI - Those discounts of "up to", first don't mistake that for "will be" and more important they might sound impressive but they are not, even a modest volume FedEx account may get you similar rates.

If it's just a rare one-off to use FedEx then the rates are ok.

I sent an order to a very large operation in the US using the buyers account (I knew 100% that they were authorized to use the account). FedEx screwed up the shipment, first it was "lost" then a few weeks later it reappeared in Montreal (I'm in Toronto) and a week after that FedEx returned it to me. I took it to the depot to re-ship, I told the clerk he should give me (actually the bill to account) a discount because of the mess they made. He agreed and offered what I thought was a huge discount of 65% (the first shipment was already refunded to the FedEx account).

He punched in the account number and told me, sorry no can do, that account already gets a 75% discount and I'm not authorized to go any higher!

As per everything you have explained, what I have read from others experience and my own personal situations using I would be nervous from the get go to use something like this implemented by eBay.

Maybe a 1 of but never on a regular basis. Too many moving parts that could potentially go off the track. From my past in shipping I have always worked on the principle I knew all the variables. And this included having a rate sheet that clearly defined all of the options. Going forward it would be a rate calculator.
