Here is my story i will never use UPS gain
About 3 weeks ago, i sold a 1977 vintage stereo on eBay. I created a label with a cost of 80 Canadian . and sent my item. When he received it, there was an issue. After talking to him on the phone, i asked he to return the item, repair it, and send it back to him all good. I went to eBay, and yes, its easy to create a shipping label but no way to create a return label. ( Stupid but Ok ) So i went to UPS.com to create a label, but it cost much more than what it cost me to ship it. I call UPS, and they explain that using eBay is much cheaper as they get a discount. So I go back to UPS.com and pay the 117 US funds, not Canadian funds, because it was returning from the USA. I feel cheated, but what can I do? I pay and send the buyer the label for shipping. All is well, but when the unit get to the depot, it gets stopped and i receive an email from UPS From there, I call them and she explains what document i need to complete, Then prepare for delivery. I ask very clearly what I need to enter in the document as its a return and don't want to be charged a fee when it gets to my door. She does not see why i would; all she needs is a bit more detail as to whats in the box and the value of it. I do as she asked and later that day i get a notice the item is now moving and should arrive on Aug 29th.
On Aug 29th, there is a knock at the door My package has arrived. At this point, the UPS carrier is there and asks for payment. i explain to him that there should not be any cost and explain to him the info from above.
But I have no choice, or he will take the item back. So I look at the box and his paperwork, and its clearly marked COD, so I ask him to wait a minute and come back with the 133.00 dollars he's asking for, and then he tells me he can't take cash. That is what COD means—cash on delivery. Nope, it does not. OK im stupid. i scammed to get a credit card. Maybe it should say POD payment on delivery, I dont know. Anyway, at this point, i am upset as i did everything i could to make sure as was not going to get extra charges.
Next, after paying the driver
I call UPS. I get 7 UPS departments, and the very last one tells me I have to send this email . Are you kidnapping me? The first one does not know this. Anyway, i feel this charge is unresnable and hope something can be done. Remember it cost 80.00 to ship but to get it returned, it was to be 260.00 How can that make any sense at all? well in the end i had to pay.they dont care at all. In the end i lost money on this item i was only going to make maybe 120.00 but returning it cost me 260.00 . Ps they did tell me that if i used express there would be no charges ... Thanks for nothing as express was 130 more how does that help they still would have got their money. 130X2= 260 using the math i understand. Use USPS or Canada post at least you know what your paying.

It won't help much, but if the sender (your buyer) did not mark the shipment as being "returned merchandise" CBSA will assume it is a purchase and add duty and sales taxes.
If this is the extra charge (and I personally hate giving UPS any positive thought) you can reclaim those "import fees" from CBSA.
Not the "customs brokerage fee" that UPS added to the incorrect import fees however.
At this point, given the cost of international shipping (and understanding that FedEx is worse) I would just cancel the whole transaction as Not As Described and refund the US buyer.
All those shipping, import and eBay fees are tax deductible business expenses when it comes to income tax time.

Just looked at your Sold listings and noticed that the shipping is given as "from the USA".
Do you store your stock in the US?
Do you use a Canadian shipper like chitchat to carry your sold items to the USA for shipping?
