I will share with you some successful ideas that I've seen sellers use on eBay to help them get those last minute Holiday shopping sales.

Buy It Now

Gift givers are often most concerned with getting the right present and being able to get it on time. Consider listing items using the fixed price "Buy It Now" format to enable instant purchases.

If you still want to use the Auction format for items that are of more of a collectable nature, list as an auction but with the Buy It Now feature.

Special Shipping & Handling Options: Expedited Shipping & Gift Wrapping

The more you can help out your potential buyers, the likelier you'll sell more items.

In order to differentiate yourself from other sellers, you could consider offering special services, like gift wrapping and expedited shipping. You can offer these services for free, or charge a small amount for your increased effort. Encourage your buyers to enable you to ship directly to the intended gift recipients to save time.

Consider using the Subtitle Feature to trumpet the extra care you'll offer to accommodate last minute buyers!

Be sure to help level set buyer as to how long shipping should take. Your shipping carrier will be best able to help you get an accurate forecast.

Market to Gift Givers

Be creative! Grab the attention of gift givers -- tell them why buying your item would make for a great gift.

There is something for anyone on eBay and almost everyone is a collector of some type or another. Take advantage of eBay's huge audience of potential buyers and market your items to those who are trying to find something special on eBay.

Change your Titles to Attract Gift Givers

Don't forget to get attention-getting "keywords" into titles. I just did a search for "great gift" and found tens of thousands of possible gifts to chose from.

Users might be searching for something elegant, beautiful, funny, gag, unique or rare, so be sure to describe your item well from the perspective of gift giving.

To pukmis -- I can understand your concern about postal carriers. I think as long as you level set buyers and you're reasonably accurate, everyone will be happy. I know of many buyers who use eBay, and don't mind if the item arrives a little late (as they know that they're the ones to blame for starting to shop so late!).

Don't forget to check the latest hot items and top keywords by category.

You can use this section of eBay as a quick guide as to what buyers are looking for, and what keywords they are using to find these items.

What is eBay.ca doing to promote "Free Shipping" listings (FS2004) other than having a link on the home page?

Are you satisfied with seller's participation in that promotion considering that only 2000 (or so) listings offer "Free Shipping" ?

Take Advantage of the 1 Day Auction Format

Don't forget about our 1 Day Auction format. If you have identical items, you can list one after the other and still keep the fun in eBay auctions. Each week, you could pump out 70 listings of duplicate items!
