blocking a user name is NOT good enough - pay attention to the email address they use

Caught someone that purchased an item from me that had a new user name, forgot to change the email. I had remembered the last name and the country so when the purchase came up - red flag. Almost wasn't.  I ended up giving 100% refund, reported buyer to EBay and then a new block of that user name.  Terrible - just awful.

I agree. I also offer untraced international airmail and domestic lettermail for most items I sell. It is, however, fairly easy to read between the lines when a buyer offers a vague 'this wasn't delivered to my door' and then, after being refunded in full without question for non-delivery, leaves feedback that says something like 'great price, thanks'. That stings and always will. I often pay heftily for an upgrade to a tracked service out-of-pocket myself when the buyer is someone unknown to me or very new to ebay. It's less about the money and more about the honour.

It's probably been more than 10 years since I added anyone to my BBL..........

Sometimes the decision to Block comes down to what categories or what price range the seller is in.

OP has 78 items listed, more than half of them over $20CDN.

You have over 600, with less than 75 being over $20CDN.

You're both in Music- but he's in instruments and you're in recordings.

And of course, the more feedback any seller has the better a cushion he has against bad dates.

Having Blocks in place, including the Block against deadbeats with Strikes is very important to most sellers.

And of course, some people have  higher tolerance for crooks, deadbeats, and players than others.

That came out sounding more critical than I meant it to. Really it was just an observation on human nature.

I agree. A vindictive blocked bidder can wreak havoc. If you search 'blocked buyer' on the discussion boards, you'll see plenty of examples.

I thought of that - revenge is a terrible game where someone always loses.  I cannot tolerate EBay thieves but I do for the most part trust in each customer that comes my way.  Sending items on Small Packet Air USA or International kind of proves that.  I'll offer that service on some items as the shipping is quite low on a fairly low $ item or items I have MANY of.  I have be burned by that due to the fact that some buyers know perfectly well that service is not trackable and therefore they can say they didn't get it =100% refund as I cannot prove they got it or not.

I am just posting here to maybe help others to avoid thief buyers - which is a terrible experience.
