migrated approx. 35 items from ebay.ca to ebay.com and an option for buyers to select a "6-month protection $10.49 from Assurant" below the buy it now and the add to cart is being randomly added to new listings. Is there a way to prevent it from showing up. I never opted for this garbage.

No opt-out for the warranty thing.

Who pays the $10.49?
Who is being insured against what?
What is Assurant?
Does the company insure non-US sellers and /or buyers?
If this is not made clear, we have another question for Raphael on Wednesday.

Google "Assurant" for more info on the company.
I know nothing about them.

Yes, if this is being done unilaterally by eBay, it's outrageous. The side issue is whether it would even apply to Canadian items or non-U.S. buyers. I'd strongly suggest you bring this up with Raphael on Wed., and have the item #'s ready to show him.

Can you post an item # here, so we can see what you're seeing?

here is just one and it will only show up on ebay,com... eBay item number 112156482051
here is ebay documentation .Auto parts/tools/accessories plus .Jewelry and Watches.. http://pages.ebay.com/buyerprotection/assurant.html
This would assume it just apply to New and New Other.
I ended and relisted the ones that had the protection and half of the one I re-listed still have it.
At this point I just don`t have the time or energy to argue on the weekly boards about it
Will just add to list of bad decisions

I wonder if Ebay gets a cut of the premiums?

Why else would they do it?
The Assurant thing is nothing new, been around for a couple of years and prior to this a similar thing offered by Square Deal for many years.

Maybe it's not new, but that wasn't the OPs point. Adding it to a listing without the seller's involvement is high-handed at least, and completely unacceptable at worst. EBay expects sellers to be responsible for their listing content, while tacking on an unsolicited offer like this? Buyers will assume the seller is pushing it, or at least in favour of it. Ridiculous.

Sellers are not responsible, but they are stuck with it on their eBay.com listings that qualify.
Assurant Solution protection plans are only available to buyers in the US (since Fall/2015).
SquareTrade protection plans on eBay are available to buyers in the US and Canada.
