AdCommerce to be discontinued ???

I just received an email from AdCommerce :

We know you've either registered for or purchased AdCommerce pay-per-click advertising placements recently to promote your eBay Store or listings. We wanted to let you know this advertising program will be discontinued for eBay.com and eBay.ca on August 4 to ensure the most relevant listings from sellers providing the best prices and service are highlighted in search results. (...)

I thought I found a way to stay on business since eBay has been flooded with fixed priced items, in addition of being disadvantaged by the best match feature...

To ensure maximum exposure for your listings in Best Match, continue to focus on sound business practices and on delivering great value and service to your buyers.

Sorry, I am practically invisible when members use the BEST MATCH feature even if my business practices are more than perfect... Now, I have absolutely no way to promote my store on eBay,. even if I want to pay to get more traffic.

AdCommerce to be discontinued ???

Since the introduction of "Best Match", daily unique users viewing my listings have dropped steadily from 1,200-1,500 a day to 175-200 even though I have twice as many listings.
My former eBay account manager told me that I was the highest seller of Christian Dior jewelry, that I sold more in volume and value than all others combined. That was last November.

If I put "Christian Dior jewelry" in the search engine on ebay.com, it shows that my store has 541 listings out of a total of 971. If I do the same at ebay.ca, it shows that there are only 44 listings, out of which 34 items are Eden's jewelry, and none of my listings are shown. Yes, I have called eBay about this and it has been acknowledged but not changed.

Oh...what to do....what to do????

AdCommerce to be discontinued ???

That's very odd! Did they give you an explanation of why that happens?

If you search for Christian Dior on .ca and then click on jewellery & watches, there are 1082 listings and 552 are yours. So the listings are there.

I thought it might have something to do with the different spelling so I searched for Christian Dior Jewellery and only got 1 listing.

When I search for Juicy Couture Jewelry on .ca 141 listings
on com 5026 listings

It looks like that they do not have the words jewelry or jewellery associated with search on .ca unless that word is actually in the title but they do have it on .com

eBay phoned me to let me know that adcommerce would be discontinued...pooh.....it was the only way people would look at my store....I was finally getting the hang of it...:|

Hope they come up with something to replace it....

I usually sell between 1K-2K per month....this month just over $300..yippee

eBay actually changed my status to long term....sales for 12 month not the 3 month anymore....so I can qualify for my discounts

Yes, I got an explanation. The person I spoke with got the same results as me, said that it was "very strange", then came up with a solution:
"type in Dior earrings, or Dior necklace, or Dior pin, your listings come up then!"

LOL

I have read on eBay.com forums that maybe eBay didn't make enough money with Adcommerce, so they decided to replace with ads from outside (like the one we all have below the eBay header since a few months)...

I also have read that maybe too many small scale sellers had too much visibility, as eBay tries to remove the small scale sellers to keep only the large scale sellers.

I'm not perfect in english, but I think there is an expression that sounds like "nature has emptiness in horror", or something like that. I mean, why this huge community of millions of small scale sellers are not invitate (with massive promotion on the web) to migrate to another marketplace, similar to the old eBay, not this Amazon-like monster they recently created ? Why is eBay so monopolistic with all those other large web companies all around ?

GofE, the search engine is only going to pick up what you have in your titles. If you don't have "Christian Dior jewelry" in your title then no, it's not going to fiind that. My understanding is that it'll look for that whole string you entered - Christian Dior jewelry not just any one word.

When I go to your store on .ca and type in Christian Dior jewelry nothing shows up but if I just put Christian Dior then I get 590 listings. Same thing if I put Dior, 590.

I have the same discussion with my hubby when he searches. LOL It's only going to find those words if those words are all in the title. Search engines aren't the greatest and sometimes too much info isn't good. My hubby has a tendency to search my exact title of whatever item he's looking at and says we're the only one. Well sure, when you put the entire string like that yes but if you narrow it down to a couple of keywords and search, then no we're not the only one with it up.

Does that help make sense to you or am I missing something?

Jakee, type in Christian Dior jewelry on .com and you will get different results than on .ca. I think that is what is bothering g o e.

I don't know how many people actually type in the word jewelry in their search but it is odd that both sites don't have similar results.

AdCommerce to be discontinued ???

I missed the call, but they left me a voice message. I had originally hoped that it was just search based results (ie if you search for a keyword) and not category headings (ie going to a specific category). Because I use only category ones anwyay. From what I'm reading here it is both, ie for all intents and purposes there is no more adcommerce for us anymore. That's too bad, depending on how you look at it it was generating according to their reports about 20% of my sales. I'll likely keep the european and Australian stuff running if they let me, it was working, especially the Australian. Doesn't leave us much to turn to to differentiate ourselves aside from putting our material up outside eBay...it seems anymore that at least once a year one has to put one's "survival" hat on to figure out how to get in front of customers!

This does seem a strange direction for them to go (ie there isn't really any differentiating stuff left) given they're (at least in my "world") allowing folks to flood small wee stuff because they're not having to pay listing fees. That should be irritating even the "big" guys too! In my world at least the "big" guys were spending a lot of promotion dollars on the featured etc listing styles, I'm surprised they're throwing that $$$ away. I'm not as surprised about adCommerce because in my categories at least there are only a few people that use it much and the income they'd get from that would be minor relatively speaking.

Time will tell, I'm soon going on my summertime eBay holiday till end of August anyway so I'll have to figure out my next "survival strategy" during that time!!

"for all intents and purposes there is no more adcommerce for us anymore'

AdCommerce ends on eBay.com and eBay.ca on August 4th.

AdCommerce will continue to be available on eBay.uk, eBay.au and in Europe.

I wonder how they justify continuing it on some ebay sites and not others.

AdCommerce to be discontinued ???

eBay does not have to "justify" anything to its sellers.

I suspect, internally, they can show more profit generated by selling the advertising space to outside advertisers in Canada and the USA (.ca and .com) while that source of revenue is not as successful in Europe and Australia

"AdCommerce will continue to be available on eBay.uk, eBay.au and in Europe."

Does it mean that our AdCommerce account will still work, but the only available countries to start a campaign will be UK, AU and Europe

or

It means only sellers from UK, AU and Europe will be able to use AdCommerce ?

Thanks...

AdCommerce to be discontinued ???

The way that I understand it, you or anyone can put an ad on those sites and if someone clicks, they will be directed to your store or to your listings on .com or .ca

Is that right?

That is correct, we have 11 campaigns running in 10 different countries and only the ones in Canada and USA will be deactivated on 01.08.10.
