Are any other Canadians so disgusted with ebay's exchange rate that they are also turning to Amazon?

I just paid $68 for a $43 purchase. I used to get over the inflated shipping cost, but these exchange rates have turned me completely off. I am DONE with ebay for a good long time. Amazon is my new go-to. I did 90% of my Christmas shopping there and was happy with everything about it! Buh-bye ebay.

Hello 'spidergirlcari',

<< Are any other Canadians so disgusted with ebay's exchange rate . . . . I just paid $68 for a $43 purchase>>

Why, then, did you buy it?  You knew before you bought it what the cost would be.  I sympathize, I truly do.  Right now the Canadian dollar is extremely low and that makes items listed in American dollars seem to be shockingly expensive.

When you see an item you like but it is in something other than Cdn dollars, the Cdn 'translation' amount always appears when you shop from ebay Canada.  And it is not ebay's rates.  Ebay has nothing to do with it.  World currency rates change all the time, but lately the Canadian dollar seems to be only going down.

This here is my favourite conversion link, but you might prefer a different one:

https://ca.finance.yahoo.com/currencies/converter/#from=USD;to=CAD;amt=1

At the time of writing this you will need roughly 1.40 for every US dollar.  Those are world rates, and as most sellers list in US Dollars (even some sellers in Europe) hoping to appeal to the large American market of buyers,  we up here have to adjust.

You can still find great items at affordable prices on ebay.  Just set up your Search for View: List

and from the Sort bar choose Price + Shipping: lowest.

On the left under Item Location you can try Canada Only -- some sellers list in Canadian dollars.  You will know them because the prices appear more  'upright'.  (haha, make of that what you will).

A few years ago for a brief period it was actually the other way round, -- Canadian dollars were worth more than American ones.  Wow, what fun!  A shopaholic's dream extravaganza. Smiley Very Happy

For now, those days are gone, -- probably for a long time, but I like to keep optimistic.

And if you are looking for something in particular,  after you have your Search all set up, find the

little green  + Follow this search  and click it.  It will save all the terms you have specified and you can access it every time from the My eBay at the top of the page.  That way you can briefly check to see if there are any new affordable items in that category.  You can get email notices about it, or opt out of that.

Not much, but we have to do what we can until our dollar picks up again.   It beats missing out on something fun.

Actually it is a fact of life with $ exchange.  We had $1.00 to $1.00 that time and now it is way low and you are complaining.  Accept it as part of fact of life.  Just pray for the $1.00 to go up back to $1.00, then we all be happy.

I am sure that Amazon is the same as eBay with $$ exchange.
