Ask a Question

I noticed for all the listings I view, the area where you click to ask a question of the seller about an item has been removed.  Why?

Where exactly are you looking?

The "Ask a question" link has been relocated at the bottom of the listings.

I was looking in the old location of "Ask a Question," where "Save this Seller" and "See Other Items" is.  Thanks for the reply, Pierre.  Thanks for telling me where "Ask a Question" has been relocated to.  I can see it now.

Yes, I had the hardest time finding it recently when I wanted to ask a seller something about an item.  Besides now being in a completely inconspicuous spot on the item page, the text also seems to have shrunk in size.  How many buyers have had the same problem locating it?

I have to wonder: is this another step on eBay's part in trying to discourage or limit direct communication with sellers?  The first step was the automated list that pops up whenever one has a question to ask.  The list never seemed to be helpful, in my view.  If anything, it was an irritation.  The next step has been the automated channeling of simple questions after a sale into "cases".  I doubt many buyers will realize that the only way to bypass that automated procedure is to choose "Other" from the bullet list presented.

Is eBay is heading for a framework where no direct communication between seller and buyer is possible, i.e. where every query goes through automation (like the ubiquitous automated telephone systems we all despise so much), or through an intermediary filter of some sort?  I actually like having prospective buyers contact me directly!

I agree, which is why I have it set up so that a potential buyer asking me a question does not have to go through that step. I notice that you do have the list of questions set up so perhaps you're not aware that it is an option not a must have?

An option?  No, I had no idea whatsoever!  I'm not a complete techno-dolt, but there are so many virtual gizmos and what-nots on eBay that it's hard to keep up with them all.  Sometimes I find options completely by accident, sometimes this Board has been a help.

I wonder whether bypassing the "bullet" list will also bypass a buyer's ability to select "Other" after a sale if it's just a matter of asking a question (to avoid opening a case)?  Do you happen to know?

Could you post a note as to how this is done?

I set it up like that long ago so I don't remember how I did it and can't seem to find any info right now. If I figure it out I'll let you know.

Buyers often use "other" when asking me a question.

Could that be a reason as to why a seller isn't responding to my questions? Or am I just impatient?

I believe that it includes every charges since it will ship from a Canadian location to another Canadian location by standard shipping which I believe is Canada Post. This was however part of my question as to know which delivery service will be used.

Here's the item number, it might be easier for you to check it yourself!

Generally YES

"Or are those charges included in the shipping charges.."

NO unless clearly stated in the listing.

Also, in most cases when buying from a business or importing from outside Canada taxes (GST/HST/PST) will be added
