It was the most celebrated rendition of America’s national anthem in a generation, but Beyoncé had left nothing to chance. Hundreds of thousands who were huddled on the icy Washington Mall erupted in cheers when she hit the notoriously difficult climax of the Star-Spangled Banner. As she ripped out her ear-piece and reached for the peak, the plaudits rushed in from around the world.

It is very difficult to get sound distribution, and equal speaker output in a stadium or arena with a live singer..... without getting echoes...that is if the stadium speakers are used.
That is why lip-sync works. It is one of the only ways to get a balanced sound.
It is possible to have someone actually sing the anthem... but the sound must come from one set of speakers in order to get a a balanced sound without echoes.....
Why does this happen? It has to do with the length of the cables to each speaker... and when each speaker in a stadium is activated...A good speaker system will be centrally located (such as suspended at the centre of a field) or there there will be delays built into the system
In contrast ------
If a rock group puts on s show... their speakers are all at one location in a large stadium and the sound is distibuted in -sinc

What is the speed of an electric current through a cable ?
So fast that you are not going to hear an echo no matter hopw long the cable are !
Now if you really meant to say the speed of the sound through air .........

They must have changed the whole sound system for everybody else then as she was the only persont that did not sing LIVE!
Wonder why it worked so well for everybody else but could not work for her?

Real life....or dubbed......does it Really matter?
nope but much like life people need to STOP making EXCUSES as to why 1 person or group of people can't do this or can't do that because of this reason or that reason when others in the exact same situation have no problem doing the same thing!

Got home, we have to do four & the less senior person has to stay, & took Phoebe for a walk, it is wicked out.
As much as i would like to just let her out in the backyard it just too small for her to run around. Toughed it out, though its a lot tougher to get her booties on.
Aren't Life People the same as exotic dancers who want to be known as Life Artists. Always got a kick out of that.

Really, I would have thought you would have heard that term previously. That has been around for a long time.
Got a kick out of your "Lifers" statement. I call them whiners.

Seems that the Marine Band also lip-synced. Because of the cold, they were not able to play as well as they normally would. So, they taped the music and pretended to play.
Beyonce also stated that there is one part of the song that is difficult and she was afraid that the cold might affect her ability to sing the song properly. She did not want to insult the President and did not want to insult the American public by faltering while trying to sing. She chose to lip-sync.

According to a sound engineer and singer writing in Slate.com on Thursday, Beyonce was singing live to a recorded band.
He based this on her minor errors, on the difficulty of hiding lip synching in a closeup (works fine in an arena performance), and on her removing one of the ear buds during the performance, among other indicators.
Also Joe Biden's reaction to her song.
