Can a seller really cancel a purchase after being marked as shipped

I bought an item but before I pay the money, I asked the seller to cancel the purchase because I did not notice the item was not the one I really wanted. He did not reply o I took this as a no and paid for the item. One day later he sent a message saying he agreed to refund me, and not to worry. However I looked at the item and it was marked as shipped. How is that possible?

Contact your seller and explain your concern. Yes, a sell...

Yes, a seller can mark an item as shipped before it is actually shipped and then correct the record.

He can even refund you after an item is shipped (which gets things even more complicated),

Since both of you are being polite and friendly , the seller will probably send you a Mutual Cancellation. Confirm in your Paypal account that you have been refunded, then agree. This frees both of you from the transaction. Leave appropriately positive feedback and expect the same.
