CanadaPOST + PAYPAL Seller Protection ( MUST READ!!! )

If you one of the many Powersellers that use CanadaPOST shipping module within PAYPAL to ship your items to the USA then you should be aware of the following:

PAYPAL Seller Protection Policy states that if you ship an eBaY item that sold for more than US$250 that you have to get an ADULT SIGNATURE when the item is delivered in order to qualify for SELLER PROTECTION.

No problem if your shipping via FEDEX, UPS, DHL and/or PUROLATOR. However, if you ship via CanadaPOST Expedited or even CanadPOST XpressPOST then your out of luck as both services DO NOT provide SIGNATURE ON DELIVERY.

The reason I was given by CanadaPOST was that their shipping agent for the USA cannot provide this level of service.

Just wanted to give everyone a heads-up on this to prevent scammers from using this whole in CanadaPOST shipping service against you.

Oh ya, even more confusing is that CanadaPOST is not listed on PAYPAL approved shippers list.

We have contacted PAYPAL to further clarify these two points and hopefully to get something in writing from them.

If you log into a Paypal transaction page to add tracking, the pull-down menu of shippers does include Canada Post.

Just to clarify, the Paypal protection policies have nothing really to do with the method you use to purchase postage (Paypal, CP, Endicia etc). If your buyer pays via Paypal, you are subject to the rules & qualifications Paypal imposes on sellers.

Nothing in my original posting talked about how you purchase posting.

The pull down menu does include CanadaPOST however when you goto the list of approved shippers, CanadaPOST is not listed.

Go and see for yourself.

You can add a signature to Xpresspost for 1.00

Christine - You can SIGNATURE service only for Canada based shipment and not for USA based shipments.

Yes you can get a signature for Xpresspost shipments to the US.

I just purchased a shipping label from the Pay Pal shipping tool and tried to get a signature for Xpresspost. Its available for $1.50 across Canada but the option is not available to the United States.

Don't use the stupid PayPal shipping tool!!!!!! It's dum and full of glitches and doesn't give refunds! It also does NOT offer all options and services available from Canada Post.

The PayPal shipping tool is VERY limited in what services it offers to people who choose to use it. The smart thing to do is NOT use it! Go to the Canada Post website and use the OBC - Online Business Centre. You get the full range of products and services offered and available from Canada Post. And if you ever have a problem that requires a refund you don't become the ping pong ball between CP and PP each blaming the other.

I agree with JAKEANGEL's comments about the whole CanadaPOST + Paypal thingie however we do also have a commerical account with CanadaPOST and like I said you cannot get a signature service with XPRESSPOST USA only way to get a SIGNATURE is with PUROLATOR which we all know costs an arm & leg.

Well if you need a signature badly then go to a Canada Post Office and get one there using Xpresspost.

CanadaPOST DOES NOT AND CANNOT provide a SIGNATURE for shipments to the USA.

I have read this thread, and I was just stating that anyone can go to a Canada Post Outlet and use Xpresspost going to the USA and add signature for 1.00. I know you want this available with your contract online CP service, yet it is not but if I was selling something that I felt needed protection I would bring it in physically, thats all.

I just came back from the Post Office and asked the clerk who has worked there for over 20 years if I can get a signature with Xpresspost going to the States...she says NO. It would be great if they offered this service since its eBay's policy that any parcel going to the states over $250.00 must have a signature confirmation.

I had a lenghty discussion with PAYPAL Resolutions Department about their Seller Protection Policy today and they have confirmed that if you shipped and item over US$250 using CanadaPOST that the item would NOT BE COVERED under their SPP because of the missing SIGNATURE that is required -- they are looking into to loophole in the CanadaPOST shipping service and the agent I spoke with promised to raise it at the next meeting on Friday - even PAYPAL was not aware that CanadaPOST could not offer this service - The rep even went as far as telling me that SHE WOULD NOT USE CANADAPOST herself to ship expensive items like this and instead use UPS and/or FEDEX instead.

I have already placed a call to our CANADAPOST account rep to see what their side of the story is and whether there are any plans to get SIGNATURE SERVICE added to the XPRESSPOST USA service.

I will update as more info becomes available.

THETICKLETRUNK -- Like I said before you cannot ADD signature service to XPRESSPOST USA shipments no matter if you jump up and down and say pretty please a thousand times -- if the clerk finally does accept your dollar and tells you have signature service is add then SHE/HE IS LYING TO YOU and it was just a ploy to get rid of you.
