Went into selling and payment questions and answers, found that Ebay restricts money orders. Can anyone tell me why?

If the buyer offers to pay by money order, it is quite OK to accept it.

Sellers are no longer allowed to offer cheque or money order as a method of payment in their listings.

eBay claims it is for the protection of the buyer since they have no protection against the seller if there is a problem.  Some suspect it may have to do with the fact eBay owns PayPal and makes good money with the PayPal fees paid by seller.

I agree with the idea of they owning Paypal is the main reasoning. Is there somewhere on a listing where you can show that money orders are accepted as payment???

NO.  Sellers are not allowed to advertise the fact they accept cheque, money order, Interac email money transfer or anything not approved by eBay.

However, sellers can accept those forms of payment if requested or suggested by the buyer.

just make sure the buyer is aware of the extended wait time to complete transaction.. you have to wait for it to get to you by mail then you have wait for it to clear looking at a good week or more before you have the money ..

If you accept a Money Order from a buyer outside of Canada, be sure to ask them to send an International money order.  For example, in the US, domestic money orders are usually cheaper to buy than international ones, so the inclination is to buy a domestic one.

My past experience is that if you get a domestic US money order, there is a very good chance that it will be deposited into your bank account without a problem but you can have it refused by your bank.

If anyone has more recent experience, please share, it has been a while since I handled money orders.

Western Union MOs are for deposit only. My CU will not accept any MOs as the scam level is too high.

USPS MOs, you have to get the USPS "pink" money order. The green ones are not cashable in Canada. A lot of POs in the US do not stock the international pink coloured MO.
