Yesterday afternoon I was quite pleased to sell a $429 set of silver after only listing it for a couple of hours. An hour later I recived an e-mail that looked like this:
hello,
i just got a mail from ebay informing me that i won your item using BUY IT NOW. yeah i really want to buy the item, and i will be buying 1 piece from you for the cost of $500 including shippment cost via dh or fedex to nigeria, as for the payment i will like to pay you via money order, for the payment i will contact my client in california owning the sum of $3500 to issue out the money order of that amount to you,so you can subtract the money for the item and also send the fund to me via western union money transfer, since he was already planning to send the money order to me, so i think it will be easier like that and it will not take longer time, so if you agree let me have your NAME,ADDRESS AND PHONE NUMBER.so i can contact my client asap.
here's the shipping address...
OH CRAP!
After doing research I found out that the buyer registered that day and had been buying up a storm and nailed about a dozen other sellers the same way. The U.S. Power Seller discussion board and I sprung into action to try and limit the damage for everyone. I want to share the results with you.
If this happens to you, this is what you should do:
1. Block the bidder at http://pages.ebay.com/services/buyandsell/biddermanagement.html
2. Relist the item right away so you can get it back in action.
3. Leave negative feedback to get this AH off of eBay. The contact info is bogus so even if there is retaliation, it will be removed. But there won't be. The seller is long gone. It is a "hit and run".
4. Reort to eBay so you can get your fees back at http://pages.ebay.com/help/contact_inline/index.html
5. Go to Starbucks for latte.
If anyone here has any other tips to add, please feel free to put the on this thread. We can only fight this if we work together.
