Help Needed Regarding a Refund to Buyer

Hello all,
- I will try to be brief. On September 23/2007 I sold 2 vaccum tubes for $91.00US inc shipping, Ebay item # 170144957762. He sent payment via Paypal on Sept 25/2007 and I sent the parcel.
- On November 19th he opened a dispute with Ebay against me claiming that the tubes he received broke down his audio research amp because one of the tubes was bad. He wants me to pay a total of $570euros (400 in repairs + 100 for shipping + 55 for the tubes + 15 shipping for return items)!!!!!!!!!! Sounds fishy to me!!!!!!!!!
- I explained to him via the dispute console that his refund claim of 570.00euros (840.00US) is extremely excessive and appears to be fraudulent in nature. I told him that I was advised to not refund him 570.00euros.
- On December 1st he tried to open another dispute with Paypal against me, but it had been over 45 days and he was denide the dispute. We communicated one more time via email on December 1st and 3rd. I informed him that the tubes where in excellent physical condition and that they were tested before I listed them. The test results were given on the item description and both tubes tested in the good scale range between 4220-6700microhos. One at 4400 and one at 6000 and that these tubes were sold as is. I have sold many vaccum tubes in the past and my test results are 100% accurate and correct.
- On Jan 11/2008 I received an email from Ebay Europe Fraud stating that they received a claim for eBay Standard Purchase Protection from that buyer and that I should reply to the email within 7 days or they may side with the buyer.
- As I understand the eBay Standard Purchase Protection has been retired since the summer. So then how did I receive this email from Ebay. Is it a spoof? How should I proceed?
- I have given full or partial refunds in the past, but this guys claims are very excessive and seem fraudulent to me. Any advice would help.
Thanks Ryan

Ignore! Unless you think you are going to have a whole pile of these "eBay protection" claims they are meaningless.

Hi,
My major was in electronic engineering. When I started out some 30+ years ago, most home appliances still had vacuum tubes. The problem with this persons complaint is the likelyhood of even if one of these tubes were bad and/or shorted, he would have a better chance of winning the major lottery X2 in a row while being struck by lightning at the same instance each time!
Circuits in amplifiers and all audio name brand devices always had fast switching diodes in conjunction with every tub and would simply disable it, hence, it would need replacement (the tube that is). This is dine always just for no other reason than to protect the circuitry.

It would help greatly if you had a name, and brand if possible for his appliance. I could easily inform you better.
The fact is tho, thats just for proof only. He is a fraud....Guaranteed!

You can also advise the scammer that you will be reporting his/her name to various online organizations as a known scammer and will include details on his scam techniques along with reporting him to the local police as a fraudster.

Make it clear to him that you will drag his name through the mud and then some.

You have his contact information - use it wisely (wink wink) if he/she persists on giving you a rough time.

Seriously?

The buyer may or may not be attempting a fraud. Either way don't risk your entire business by crawling into the mud with him. You have nothing to gain by doing so...either financially or ethically.

The most he can get back from you via a dispute with PayPal is the total he paid in the first place. His claim for exorbitant damages will NOT BE ENTERTAINED.

Judging by the buyers FB, he has been buying alot of tubes. Maybe the problem stems from his trying tubes that are incompatible with his system. Putting a correct defective tube in an amp will not cause problems. Since you tested this and you are happy that it worked when shipped, tell the guy to take a hike, take the neg FB and move on with your life. I see too many people on here that fret and post many times over a neg FB.
