How Rude!!

I have an item listed with a MSRP of $1,499 that I am selling for $375 USD.

I just received an inquiry from an eBayer that went something like this: "How can you sell a $1500 violin for $375 and tell me where the web site is for the manufacturer".

I started to answer it several times, then I looked at the guy's FB of 100% with a total of 5 FB since 2002 with a change of name and only one purchase in 2004.

I decided to delete his inquiry rather than get into a pi$$ing match.

Am I taking this too personally or do you agree that people who likely have no interest in what you are selling in terms of purchasing it but choose to attack what you are doing, are best to be avoided?

My options were:

To provide him with an answer that might satisfy his curiosity.

Tell him its none of his business.

Ask him if he is interested in purchasing the item and if not, pi$$ off.

Or delete his inquiry.

I chose tha latter.

Wow! Glad to hear I'm not the only one. Lots of rude Q4S and actually had one buyer so rude, I refunded her money "because I didn't want her business". boy that felt good!

Here's my favourite from last week - "how can it be NEW if it is an old movie?" My response was "Go to Walmart and look at all the old movies."

Re: How Rude!!

For the Christmas rush I began a promotion that ran from December 1st to December 7th where all eBay auctions started at 1 cent.

I stopped lisiting items for auction once the promotion was over as to not get caught in the scenario of being bombarded with e-mails of questions regarding where their item is. I wanted a stress free Christmas this year. I do however have about 300 items in my eBay.ca store.

Last night (dec. 15th) I received an e-mail via one of the store listings from someone stating that that my auctions were not 1 cent each and that I was a liar and should be sued or charged with false advertising.

My response :

1. eBay ads clearly state sale runs from Dec 1st to 7th not to the 15th or beyond.

2. I have no auctions listed, only store items, and the ad clearly states that the sale is for auctions.

3. You have been blocked from bidding or buying items from me as you are incapable of reading the LARGE print.

Not necessarily the best way to handle it but knowing my luck he'd buy something and try to turn it around on me.

Have a great holiday season and smile !

Alex.

Aside from an increase of rude and illiterate people we are all experiencing during this busy season, I must admit that yesterday I received 3 "Thank You's" from customers that magically erased all of the bad experiences have had of recent weeks.

I have to share parts of them with you as they really illustrate I believe, what each of us do in our eBay businesses for our customers but hear it so seldom:

1. Merry Christmas to ShopLine, you have made our first Ebay experience memorable!

2. Thank you so very much for all you have done for us!! You are going to really make someone's Christmas very happy! I appreciate all the extra time you took, and your patience.

3. Hi Malcolm ... you are amazing! Thank you for providing such an extraordinary service. I am very impressed

I dont know if any of these people left me positive eBay FB right now, nor do I care. These personal comments mean more to me than contributing to the eBay FB system.

So while we continue to condemn the rude and the nasty that must live absolutely miserable little lives, lets also take time to appreciate those that take the time to say how appreciative they are of all that we do in our busineses to make their eBay experience a good one.

Now back to ranting!!!

Malcolm

I used to reply to people like that, but then I realized that's what they're looking for. Now I just block them from emailing me, block them from buying my items, and delete their "question". So far, it has worked really well.

I had commented about the customer I had earlier who said he would only take the bag if we got it to him by such and such a date, and that by doing so freight would be extremely high.

In any event in a later post I indicated that he had paid for the item and I was hoping it wouldn't turn into a disaster sale....

Well he emails me late last week just to let me know he got the bag in time, everything is great and he just now realized the amount of freight he ended up paying. He wasn't upset at me, more at himself for not realizing it before the fact, but thanked me for the prompt service.

My rude customer for the season turned out to be a 14 year old. They had paid for the item. The next day I had the item packaged and ready to go to the post office. I finally get a chance to check my email just before I go to the post office and I see there is 4 emails from the buyer wondering when I will ship the item. In the last email the buyer threatens a chargeback since he has not heard from me. I promptly email him back and say that I will not be shipping the item to someone who is willing to commit fraud. Within the hour I hear back from the buyer saying he is sorry. He is only 14 years old and his mother clued him into the way business works. In the end it all worked out.
