Hello Coline,
First time that happened to me I was totally surprised, - I wasn't expecting it at all. But I thought it was quite funny and it gave me a huge laugh.
Ebay auctions are not like real life auctions at all. Sure, they go all week so you can place your maximum high bid when it suits you, at least in theory, but when every auction has a 'countdown' and bidding can go to the last second, -- there's always going to be a 'sniper' (one who 'scoops' the auction at the last second).
It takes a time or two to really get the hang of it, but after that it's really quite fun. It's also the best way to win, - and prevents others from fiddling your bids up. Have you seen this link about ebay bidding? There are related links like getting outbid over on the right, - and it is the best explanation you'll find on how the auctions here work.

May you always win what you want, - and want what you win.
