I found an easier Cdn Government site for finding HS codes....

I found a government site that actually made it a lot easier to find my correct HS codes:

http://www.ic.gc.ca/eic/site/cid-dic.nsf/eng/00011.html

Then go to the left side and "Search by Product"

At the very least it confirmed what I had found on other sites.

Paper sewing pattern HS code 491199 (Paper, printed matter, other)

Cotton fabric woven under 100 gms weight 520851

Cotton fabric woven 101 to 200 gms weight 520852

If anyone thinks my choices are really incorrect, please let me know.

vintagenorth, I posted this on another thread where your post was quoted:

Paper sewing patterns are 482390 - Printed patterns, dressmakers, of paper, nes

The HS codes given for is for printed fabric that is at least 85% cotton; 520851 with a fabric weight of up to 100 grams per square metre; 520852 with a fabric weight between 101-200 grams per square metre; -the weight does not refer to the actual weight of the fabric you are shipping.

You don't click on the "Search" buttons in the help section. Click on "Search by Product" on the left side of the page, then you'll get a page where you can click on a working search button.

It's not a very useful site for finding HS codes, because while it does have HS codes, the site is really designed to show the major Canadian companies that are importing various products into Canada.

You're right dennis, but I found that if I wasn't sure if the HS code I had picked from the CP site was correct, when I used the CG site I was able to check on those importing companies and if they were importing the item I was selling it made sense that I had picked the correct code.

Now does that run-on sentence make sense??

Yes. Cross verifying makes sense, especially since some of the HS descriptions are very technical.

I think I found, perhaps, maybe, that a dvd movie is classified as "Optical Media - Other" -- 852349....

Also from my searching, I see that the first 6 digits are the same regardless of country, but any extra digits after that can vary by country.  *sigh*

And for people wondering why the periods are being left out of the HS codes -- most countries use spaces rather than periods in the HS codes. And computers just don't care for either... Man Wink
