I want to have the item shipped to my American address but since my address is Canadian it won't let me purchase the item..it also won't let me contact the seller

Hi ..Nothing you can do unless have someone stateside that could purchase for you. Even if you were able to buy there is always the possibility that a US domestic seller has PP preferences set to block non US PayPal accounts.
