True, but it could work something like this. For those who are already in Ebay's algorithm for FREE listings it could stay FREE. For those who are not as fortunate charge a fee. That way everyone could benefit from these sales if they wanted to.

"everyone could benefit from these sales"
Everyone but eBay!
There are valid marketing reasons for eBay to offer promotions - by invitation only - to a specific range of sellers (and that selection is not necessarily the same for all promotions).
They gauge the response they get - analyze the eventual results (sell thru rate) - and make long term policy and rate changes based on these results. Let's not kid ourselves - eBay is here to make money, not to constantly give "freebies" to users.

wouldnt be surprised if the ongoing sport card promo is the model for a new fee schedule. free listing numbers tied to subscription level (with probably other changes). Ebay has increased their take rate with every fee change so not something to wish for

Did you read that eBay is extending its free-listing promotion in Outdoor Sports categories, and is adding Winter Sports and Golf categories to the promotion. The company announced the extension on Christmas Eve, but eBay would not be extending the promotion in the Sports Collectibles category
Pierre, I agree that Ebay is here to make money.......that's why I see a bulk listing fee as a money maker for them.

Either the seller purchasing a subcription makes more money or eBay makes money. Unfortunately, it can't be both.
The amount of money available to buyers to spend on eBay is not elastic. Money paid to a seller getting a "free" listing is money not paid to a seller paying listing fees!
It may be easier for all sellers if eBay would simply stop those "by invitation" listing promotions and offer the same deal to all sellers within a number of categories.
Since the listing fees are relatively very low on eBay - compared to what they were ten years ago - they should not prevent sellers from listing their wares.

If a seller purchases a subscription Ebay makes money.
If a seller sells more goods, than Ebay makes more FVFs.
My store ID never hardly gets the invitation to the listing promos. One of my other listing ID recently got the FREE promo. I sold just under $1000. worth of goods by using the 10 day auction listing which ended after the Christmas rush. For me this was a great way to pocket some extra cash. Ebay also benefits from the FVFs they will be getting.
