If the Canadian seller lists an item in US funds, then payment should be made in US$.

In the "good old days" many Canadian sellers would offer buyers to send a cheque in equivalent Canadian dollar.  However, eBay no longer allows sellers to offer payment by cheque or email Interac transfer.

"because everyone is getting greedy"

???

I am a bit surprised by your comment considering you have been buying on eBay for over two years and I would expect you understand the system by now.

For the benefit of readers with less eBay experience: most Canadian sellers list their products on eBay using US currency as suggested by eBay. According to eBay, sellers stand a better chance of selling their products by using the American currency since most buyers on eBay are Americans.

By listing in Canadian dollars, it would force the American buyer to convert the currency at time of payment and costs the buyer an extra 2.5% conversion fee through PayPal.  Most sellers understand that having the buyer pay a fee to convert will eventually result in lower sales.

Still some Canadian sellers list in Canadian dollars.  It is often because they direct their sales and marketing efforts towards the Canadian market.

Don't be silly.

The US dollar and the Canadian dollar and the Australian dollar and the Hong Kong dollar are all different currencies. They just happen to share the same name.
