There is probably precedence on this that someone may be able to point to.

The item is a camshaft for a Civic (Item 251161883079) which in the ad heading indicated it fitted 80 to 83 Civics ... but on receipt I find it does not fit my 83 model. However, the ad also states that the seller does not accept returns.

So far the seller is not responding to my attempts to resolve this but I'm still trying.

How do you think eBay would decide this if it went to a dispute?

File a dispute now at the Resolution Centre for "goods not as described"

Just follow the procedure. There is no point in communicating any further with the seller.

eBay will contact the seller and advise.

I've heard suggestions (not sure how substatiated they are) that some sellers with "no returns" policies shoot themselves in the foot if they get an SNAD complaint and handle it badly. Since "no returns" doesn't mean "no refunds," these sellers end up having to return the buyer's money without actually seeing the item returned.

Just checked the listing page and the only place I can find a reference to 1983 is in the item title. The "compatibility" chart and calculator don't say anything about the camshaft being good for an '83 Civic. Did they say otherwise when you purchased it?

According to the pulldown chart the part does not fit a 1983 Civic. But since 1983 was in the title, I think that ebay would still consider this a SNAD.

I wonder if mobile phones can even see the info in the pulldown chart.

Yes there is a discrepancy between the title and the compatibility chart - the compatibility chart being correct.

I pointed out the difference to the seller before buying and compared his picture with my worn shaft but failed to conclude that it was no good for me. The case is not clear cut at all.

The item cost $99.99 and shipping each way is about $40 - that's why I am trying to work something out with him.

I couldn't even see a full item description on my phone, but then, I'm one of these nerds with a Windows 7.5 phone and IE doesn't support various goodies we take for granted on our desktops and notebooks.

I'm still discussing this with the seller and considering getting a refund for the item price and may work out some sharing of the shipping cost to get it to me.

If the seller refunds the cost of the item does he get back his final value fees from eBay?

PS: An option may be for the seller to re-sell it and have me ship it to the new buyer. Remember, the item cost $99.99 but shipping to me is $40 and back to the seller, another $40.
