Who is Julia?

This is a member to member board. Your seller should be contacted directly through Contact Seller on the listing that interests you.

But it sounds as if you have a question about the Global Shipping Program. Your seller is probably unaware of your costs, since she never sees them.

At a guess, you purchased a (bulky?) item for $20. Under the GSP the seller ships to PitneyBowes in Kentucky for levy of duty and tax and for trans-shipment to Canada.

Bulky, because $32.90 is a lot of money for US domestic shipping. The cost of shipping is based on dimensions, not on value.

There would be pretty minimal duty and tax on a $20 item, so the rest of the money , about $47, would probably be the cost to ship the (bulky?) item from Kentucky to Canada.

Or your seller could be lost and confused.

BTW, the cost of shipping+ the cost of trans-shipment through the GSP was on the listing. If you don't like the total price, don't buy.

Most Canadian buyers detest the GSP, you are not alone.

Looks like you may have paid twice for the item.

Go to your paypal acct and check it out.

If so you will have to get the seller to reimburse you 1 payment.

Looks like Julia is a figurine that was bought from a Canadian seller.

Turns out "julia" is not a person but a Royal Doulton figurine.

I suspect part of the high cost of shipping is packaging to survive plant machinery (both postal and PitneyBowes) where a parcel could have another package weighing 50 lbs drop on it from a height of two feet.  That's from a seminar on packaging sponsored by eBay and Canada Post many years ago.

If the package then is large, and my RD ladies are about 8" high and 5" wide at the base, the dimensional rate for the thoroughly secured porcelain could be quite high.

I really don't mind paying the price that I agree to, but I was quoted $20.00 for the Royal Doulton, "Julia" and shipping was posted $32.90. Whereas the Doulton, 8" x 5" is coming from Niagara, Ontario to New Brunswick, both in Canada, I can't understand why I am paying for import charges. Thanks for your comments femmefan 1946, toby_le_pue, and really nice stamps. Marilynn
