Lost shipment question

I sent a fairly exprensive item(700.00) to a buyer via express post and according to the tracking the customer was delivered the item but he emailed me saying he had not recieved it.So i called canada post and they are starting a investigation.

My question is even tho on my auctions i recommend customers purchase insurance he did not am i liable for this lost item?will i end up eating the cost if this ends up going to paypal via a chargeback or so on?

I hope the package will turn up and if not i will try and work somthing out with the customer but if not i don't want to be on the hook for it.I mean what stops people from scamming if it turns out it was delivered and he is lookin to scam me,it's my word against his type of senario even tho it shows it was delivered.

Express post has $100 of insurance included in the price, I believe, and online tracking that "might" satisfy paypal if it was a confirmed address. Did you ship to a paypal confirmed address? Did they initiate a paypal claim already?

I get paranoid about losing just $20... Yikes, I hope everything works out for you.

You can only insure the item for its cost to you so assuming that cost was $500, it would have cost you only $4 for peace of mind, whether the customer wanted to pay for insurance or not.

Next time, build insurance into your shipping price with NO option. Insurance is NOT an option for any of my customers.

Up to know this month alone 10 parcels they can't find. Insurance is a must on all parcels this way here your not out of your money.

careful with canada post insurance..
if shipping to the states or oversea's with a customs value declaration, if you declared your item is say $60 cdn, and you pay for insurance with $300 coverage you'll only get the lower amount of either the insurance coverage or the declared value..
so in this case you'll get $60 even though u paid for $300 coverage..

Also be careful about what they will insure or not. I have had a claim or two denied by CP when they wouldn't insure the type of item I sent. When I am shipping one of those items now, I go with FedEx, since they will insure those items.
