Hello everyone,
Apologies for opening the thread late today, I've ben swamped with meetings until now. We'll leave this open overnight to allow for more people to join.
Here are the issues I'm currently tracking:
Updates:
03-02-2016 03:49 PM - edited 03-02-2016 03:51 PM
ebay Guides
The new format for them is a URL starting with
The old is
The ebay.ca Canada site map uses the old format on the bottom left Reviews & Guides under Selling Resources
http://pages.ebay.ca/sitemap.html
Reviews & Guides has link http://reviews.ebay.ca/
when it should be http://www.ebay.ca/gds
The old format seems to mess up new Guides. This issue was discussed in this forum topic where it was found by a member who posted a UK site link because the Canada site link did not view properly (had old URL).
I cannot find any other links to ebay Guides on the eBay.ca Canada site.
Are Guides dead? There was a big push 2-3 years ago in the eBay.com USA forums in the old forum format where Guides had their own forum to clean up guides. A very enthusiastic eBay staff member was cleaning them up. Then the ebay staff member "disappeared" and that project died and it now seems that Guides are dead.
What is the status of guides and where are links to them on eBay.ca site?
The site map link should be fixed to the new format, no?

Hi Pocomo,
Guides are not dead! They are just broken on the eBay.ca site (talking about the new ones). The ownership of this product was just taken over by a new team in San Jose and they've been working with us to fix the issues with the new Guides. Don't have a date yet for re-launch but I'm expecting to have more news relatively soon.

Good afternoon.
Regarding the Safari bug you are tracking, I can confirm it is not resolved. Whenever I try to highlight a section of text within the item description field with my mouse, the entire remainder of the page is immediately highlighted and hijacked to the end. I use Version 9.0.3 (11601.4.4). This is not something I experience anywhere else on the internet with this browser, only ebay.
Were you able to ascertain the cause or solution to the odd behaviour with calculated shipping showing service and location options it's not supposed to offer within the ebay.ca Shopping Cart?
Thanks,
Maureen

... and if I may, what is this with feedback? I don't object to seeing more details on the page but I had assumed there was some thinking behind the switch to vague dates. Is this to help a seller determine if a buyer marked their untraced order late before it was due to arrive? Or merely a glitch?

Hi - It's been over a month since eBay ran a free listing promo. Many sellers are wondering if there will be any more offered in the near future. Any info on this would be appreciated. Thanks!

When will the eBay 2016 Spring Seller Update be announced? Last year it was mid March. I suppose you can't give an exact date but is it this month as usual?
Any clues to what is being looked at for changes?
Usually the spring update has changes to the fees structure (free listings, categories for free etc.) Is fees a part of the 2016 Spring Update.
Just curious.

I think the dates have now gone away. They were useful. Why ebay hides them is a mystery.

Hello Raphael,
Re the Safari bug - I still have problems as well. I'm using 9.0.3 and there is a problem with text but also I find it jumps around, i.e: putting an amount in price it will jump to the description or title. Just erratic.
Thank you,
Judith

In the ebay.com USA weekly sessions, the feedback date appearing issue was confirmed by Griff to be a glitch and it will be rolled back to no date showing.

I just want to confirm something that I saw on the .com board today as I do not want to get caught listing duplicates. Say you have 2 items the same, although one is new and the other is used. For instance a new CD or a used like new CD. Can you list them at the same time, one listing as new and the other as used and of course, different prices and pictures?
@silentrealmentertainment wrote:Sometimes when I get my products from my supplier, I will get one or two that have dents or other damage. Would I be in violation of the duplicate listing policy if I listed:
1st listing - Brand new item with no flaws
2nd listing - Brand new same item with dents/not mint at lower price
They are both technically new but one is not in the same condition as the other. Is this allowed? I read the policy and it states a new and used can be listed but technically the dented one wouldnt be "used"
They would not be considered duplicates IF you indicated the condition for each item as stated above and you used different photo sets for each. Indicate the condition in the Condition text fields, the description and the title.

Good morning Raphael,
I wanted to follow up on a post that I wrote last week and that you replied to. I've copied and pasted your post to me below. My new comments/questions are in blue.

Hi pjcdn,
You pretty much have it correct. Here is the eBay definition:
Any transaction cancelled through eBay or refunded through PayPal because the seller no longer has the item or chooses not to ship the item will count in the defect rate as a seller-cancelled transaction. Transactions that are cancelled because the buyer no longer wants the item are not counted in the defect rate.
pjcdn2005 wrote:
Are there other scenarios that would cause a seller to receive a seller cancellation defect?
For example -
3.If there was no tracking in either of these cases so no real 'proof' that the item was shipped...would that make a difference in whether or not a defect was given?
___________________________________
1 & 2. I don't understand why those scenarios would cause a seller cancellation defect as neither fits the definition that you quoted. The seller did ship the items so the definition of seller cancelled transaction "because the seller no longer has the item or chooses not to ship the item " shouldn't apply here. In both cases the buyer wanted to return the items so are you saying that because the buyer didn't go through the return process the seller gets penalized?
Not all buyers feel the need to go through the return system and if a buyer sends me a message or email asking for a return, I don't want to ask the buyer to sign back into their account and start the return process as it is an extra, unneeded step for them.
Thank you

Hi Maureen,
Thanks for confirming it's still there. I have reached the SYI team so they can remedy.
Re: the shipping and shopping cart issue you reported, apologies but I forgot to follow up on that one. I found your email about it and have sent over the details to the checkout and shipping teams for review. Did you see it happen again?

Hello forester_studios,
I don't know the exact dates but I can confirm there are more promos coming. Stay tuned.

Hi pocomo,
So... you want me to reveal details of an upcoming announcement before the actual announcement? Let me think about this... 🙂
For obvious reasons, it's impossible for me to answer these questions, other than to say that yes, there is a Spring Update coming.

Thanks for this, Judith. The SYI team is looking into it.

Hello musicyouneed,
You can consider Griff's word as Gospel when it comes to anything eBay related. He is indeed correct on this.
To add a bit of colour, the general rule for duplicates is that any time the same item appears twice or more in the same search results set, they would be considered duplicates. Hence, the listing method recommended by Griff would easily identify both items as distinct, given that one is used and the other is new, both having different pictures and titles.
