March against police violence.

Well, I made it to Toronto for the march.

I am not an expert, but I would say the crowd was 500 to 700.

That does not include the almost two dozen plain clothes cops in the crowd.

Not sure how they think they can hide and not be recognized.

They don't speak.  They don't chant.  They just move their eyes constantly over the crowd.

It amazes me that such a hot button issue as this one drew such a small crowd.

I would guess that many of the protesters turn out for every protest in Toronto - no matter what the protest is about.

Sammy Yatim's sister spoke.  Several jerks in the crowd kept yelling while she spoke.

There was no official response from the police or the city.

If Rob Ford wants to be re-elected, he should have been marching with the others.

The way Ford is going these days, he couldn't march, he would probably stagger...

Re: March against police violence.

The problem with anything like this is you have two sides....the powerful and those without power. You could have 5000 people in a demonstration and those who hold the power will still just ignore them. This has been the way in any society since time began. This is also why people turn to violence at times, because they get sick and tired of being ignored and treated like second class human beings.

Next lets look at the circumstances and compare it to police vs citizens. If someone came on my property with a 2in knife and video showed he was 20 some feet from me and was not attacking me or putting anyone's life in danger and I shot and killed him.....you can be guaranteed I'd be arrested for manslaughter and use of 'unreasonable' force. So my question is........why is the cop who shot this kid under the same circumstances not being treated the same? One rule for the police, another rule for everyone else. The same applies to politicians......one rule for them and another rule for everyone else. If you had a job and tried to pad your expense report to the tune of 100,000 dollars...........you would be fired .....maybe even charged with fraud. But what happens to politicians......virtually nothing! I was reading the other day about two lawyers, one convicted of molestation and another convicted of assault......both will be back practicing law. What's wrong with this picture?

As the CBC commentator said..."some (of the people) aren't convinced anything will change" and nothing will which has already been shown through previous incidents and "recommendations" have not been followed through.

Then you listen to Blair and his spew.....what a load of garbage. "our continued commitment and our willingness to look at everything we do and the best possible way to keep all our citizens safe"........pure political double speak. They haven't done anything about situations that happened in the past and the police were never held accountable. These eliminate his spew.

The "civilian body that oversees the police"......are there any representatives on that group from poorer or younger segments of our society, or are the members once again only those from the upper classes? If my memory serves me correctly they are appointed....I feel they should be elected.

Nothing will change, this young man will be forgotten like all the others and the police and the politicians will still rule the roost ......until people get angry enough and that's not going to happen until they feel they have real power in some form or other.

We are less and less in a democratic system and more and more in a form of fascism.

Re: March against police violence.

Well you could if you wanted to, I don't care. Do you want to know what they were? Assault, every one of them, I just made a habit of being very efficient. I suppose if I wasn't such a perfectionist then I might not have got in the trouble I did, but when someone is poking and prodding you constantly and then decides to get in your face, that's where I drew the line.

But mikey here's the thing......... the two men were lawyers. See the word......lawyers.......comes from the word "law", yet they broke the law, especially one............ 'big time'! Now if a person was a pilot and while being drunk he crashed a passenger plane, would he lose his license and job to ever fly again? Most likely. If a nurse is caught stealing drugs, she loses her job and her nurses credentials and her ability to ever practice nursing again. If someone had a daycare centre and harmed children, do you think they would ever get a daycare license again? No! ................But you figure two LAWyers who broke the law should be allowed to practice LAW again? LOL
