I thought I would try the CDN dollar listing promo - listed 9 items that I thought might sell to Canadians. One item sold Sat morning to a man in the States. eBay/Paypal won't let him pay.
First he blamed it on the invoice being in CDN dollars - I told him once he hits pay, he will see the conversion.
Then he was upset because he felt I was changing the amount of the item all week (didn't seem to grasp the changing CDN dollar)
Then because he couldn't pay when he finally agreed to hit the pay button, he called eBay. A CS told him to tell me to send a manual invoice from Paypal in US dollars because there was no way he would be able to pay my CDN dollar invoice.??????
After emails back and forth all day, I told him to just try again in the morning. Today it started all over again. Can't pay.
I have sent him my email and the amount he owes me in US dollars and to just send me a paypal direct payment. Hopefully, this will happen.
So, my question is - is this another eBay glitch from a week of glitches or was this a problem listing in CDN dollars. I only have a few more CDN dollar listings left and I am hoping they don't sell.
I don't plan on listing anymore items in CDN dollars - sheesh, who has time for this nonsense.

Most of my buyers are from the US and I could just see that happening. That the US $ amount would change each time the Canadian $ went up or down. Ebay will have to drag me screaming to list in Canadian pesos.

I have been listing in CAD exclusively since November or December of 2013 and not once has this problem that you describe happened to me. I cannot even hazard a guess as to what the problem might be to cause it. If he was trying to pay on Friday night or Saturday, however, I would suggest it was part of the site failure that involved ebay checkout. It was one of the first functions to go and reportedly first to be fixed.

Ditto. I have had some of my listings in Canadian dollars for at least a couple of years and have sold those items to Americans without any problems.

One does not "try the CDN dollar listing promo". One makes it part of their selling strategy. I choose not to, but, I have a different market and strategy.
Yeah, there was a system failure overnight Friday. eBay.com did not even exist Saturday morning.
As the others have alluded to, long term results are far more indicative than an overnight failed sale.

You listed your twisted tea hard iced tea party at $65 Canadian. The same item you had been listing without a sale at the US$ equivalent of $17-30. Did you really expect a sale within a few days of listing, at 4X the price, just because it was in $CAN? Ebay nor anyone else claimed currency could do that

$50 US dollars
is currently about
$65-$66 Canadian dollars.

I'll also join the chorus in saying I've always listed in CAD, and have sold to buyers all around the world (including many to the U.S.) and have never had an issue as you are describing (or any issue at all, for that matter).
