No respect for national anthem.

DH and my son-in-law, a former U.S. ranger, attended a hockey game today at our local arena.  During the singing of the national anthem they remove their hats along with about 98% of the crowd.  There are always a few morons who fail to do so including older gentlemen who know better.

Today really took the cake though.  One patron was not only talking on his cell phone through the whole thing, but he also raised his voice to be heard over the singing.  My son-in-law witnessed this before my husband arrived and was totally disgusted.  DH was equally unimpressed.

What will it take for people like this to show respect for their country....another world war?

No respect for national anthem.

I notice they don't play the National Anthem in cinemas any more 😞

Our parents always told us to wait for the anthem to end before leaving. 🙂

I remember a teacher telling the class when I was very young that you should stand at attention during the national anthem "even if a bee bit you in the back of the neck".

Wow!  You must be old.  I don't ever remember the national anthem being played after a show.

I guess that makes me old too because I remember.  They also played "the news" before the movie.  They used the old reels and changed them in the middle of the movie.

Ahhh, but it only cost 25 cents to get in, 10 cents for a drink, popcorn or chocolate bar.  It cost a nickel each way for the bus (for children).

I remember those days.

We had a theater near us so we didn't take the bus.  However, it was about a 25 block bike ride.  I do remember the newsreels.  I remember the Saturday morning serials with their cliff hamger endings so you would have to go back next week

Flash Gordon, The Scarlet Horseman, Captain Midnight, Red Rider, Captain America, Tarzan.  And then there were the cartoons!

Going to the Saturday matinee was a major experience as a kid.  To be allowed to go WITHOUT THE DREADED PARENT was a sign that you had grown up.  Kids today are missing a great cultural era.

I’ve enjoyed movies since I was a kid. Good movies that is, but good new ones are getting harder to find.

As a kid a few of us use to go to the theatre and sneak in the back door when the usher wasn’t looking then spend most of the afternoon low in the seats so our heads wouldn't show watching the same flick over and over.

In high school I worked at two theatres on Dundas, Loews and the Capitol. I think I can still repeat in my head the scripts for some of the movies.

I remember seeing a Hard Days Night at CFB Clinton when I was up there for a rifle competition. Very small theatre but there was a usherette there who was unbelievably beautiful. I think somewhere in the back of my mind I’m still fascinated by her.

The old Victoria cinema on Clarence….a rat trap and fire trap but it was a memorable place. Then there was the old Odeon on Dundas in London. The manager knew how to open a new movie and attract people. When Lawrence of Arabia opened you were greeted at the door by ushers in Arabian costumes and he even found a real camel for the front of the theatre. Movies had class back then.

My father had a 'look' he would give. At that point you knew you had reached the line. I did cross it once....found myself on the other side of the couch. Not sure how I got there, it all happened so fast.

My wife has seen the change in kids on the school bus.....or more the change in parents. Some kids are just let run free, do what they want, hurt who they want and have learned nothing. When they grow up and have kids, what type of parents will they be.....what type of human beings will they be? The future doesn't look all that good. JMPO

We were just under a mile from the closest movie theatre.  Sometimes we would walk so we could spend the bus money on candy.

We would also bike over a mile to the Lion's pool in the summer time.  I remember riding one of those little beginner 2 wheelers and having to pedal twice as hard to keep up with my older brother and sister to keep up with them.  They had no pity...lol.  At that time we would have been about 6, 8 & 9 years old.  Now kids have to be accompanied by an adult.

Favourite TV shows:  Fury, Rin Tin Tin, Lassie, Roy Rogers, Hopalong Cassidy, Davie Crockett, Father Knows Best, I Love Lucy, etc.
