No rhyme or reason!!

Earlier this month I tried to list a pill box and received the following message.

You've reached the 30-day selling limit for the type of item you're trying to list. This isn't a reflection on your account or selling activity. These limits apply to all accounts. But it does mean you won't be able to complete this listing right now. (You can still list other kinds of items, though.)

Items that are subject to selling limits can change, so we can’t be specific about which listings fall under these protective limits.

Long-time sellers with proven track records and other positive account attributes may be eligible for higher selling limits. If you believe that you would qualify, please review our selling limits page for more information.

You may be able to list this item in 4 days.

At that time the restriction was for 21 days so I am assuming there is a 30 day restriction.

There is no rhyme or reason for the restriction. I have had no policy violations or disputes or any problems other than glitches or unpaid items. The strange thing about it is the fact that they say there is a selling limit on this type of item. At the same time this one specific design was restricted I was able to list a bunch of other pill boxes with different designs, the point being that it is the SAME TYPE of item.

What a bunch of nonsense! Restrictions on a container in which you put your pills. Since it is sold WITHOUT pills, what is the big deal?

I went to the page they were talking about and ended up simply using the Contact Us email to which I received no reply...no surprise there.

I have had this happen to me before. I don't understand it either. Mine wasn't on a pill box but on a piece of jewellery. Doesn't make any sense. EBay have quite a few unexplainable rules!

Westernstar- perhaps there was a word in the title that made the ebay bots think it was a listing for something else...perhaps a designer item?

PJ....The only difference was the words 'angel' and 'religious'. I even tried making up a new listing and changing the title leaving out the word 'religious' but I still could not list it.

Angel items are most likely to sell before Christmas. Perhaps eBay had too many angels listed on eBay?!!

Were the items you had restricted designer? I know that was one of their criteria. My pill boxes are handcrafted but would not be considered "designer" as in brand names.

May we all be protected from pill boxes and jewellery this holiday season!....lol.

It really is annoying that things like this happen and we aren't told exactly why it is happening so that we know what for the future.

eBay keeps us in the dark about a lot of things....restrictions and DSR's for example. They should be designed to help the seller, not make a mystery out of it.

No, my items were not designer items. They explained to me that they do not like too many "like" items on Ebay at the same time. In both cases my items were rings & I had sold them but not several times. They would not let me re-list them. They had been sold once in several weeks. Like I say, "no rhyme or reason" that I could figure out.

I just did a search for "angel pill box" on .ca and netted a whopping 34 listings plus some from international sellers. Not one was the same as mine.

So that is 3 strikes out for eBay's restriction...the market is not flooded, I did not have any other angel pill boxes listed and it was not a designer item.

I sell collectible cigarette tins (the flat fifty tins that were popular in the 40s and 50s? oh, you are all too young to remember them?) I have been very very careful to note that the tins are empty and no cigarettes or tobacco are included.

Had any strange buyers or questions lately? Any aggressive competitors?

I had this happened on bandage thin box. But managed to to play around with the wording.

Very likely it did have to do with the possibility that I might be selling medications but then why not my other pill boxes?

And yes, I do remember the cigarette tins. I used to also have the cigarette roller that my mother used but got rid of it long ago....should have hung onto it.

I was able to re-list the pill box the other day with no problems.
