The original address was to a PO box in NY state. I emailed the buyer asking for the full shipping address. Of course she said this was unheard of and she doesn't know what is going on with the Post Office and will be following up.
Meanwhile the new address she provided is different, not even the same area code. I am guessing that she may have moved and didn't change her address on PayPal. Now she wants me to ship to the new address at my expense. I asked for the original address to ship to or told her that additional postage would apply if she wanted me to ship to an alternate address.
Any other guesses as to what is happening here?

If you shipped to the PayPal address and it was returned to you then I would let the buyer know that they are responsible for the additional costs of shipping to them again. It is his/her responsibility to keep their address, phone number and e-mails up to date.
Just my .02 worth!
Hope all else is well your way!

I agree with you there. There seems to be more to the problem though because this is the second time in a week that a buyer has informed me that the address in PayPal was wrong.
Last week a buyer emailed me when he paid and said that the for some reason his old address had shown up instead of his new one. This seems to be the same scenario. This new buyer has said that she has lived in the same place for 6 years and has never had a problem before with her account. I advised her to contact PayPal to correct it if it had changed or was wrong. She has great feedback and has FB for recent transactions.
If Miriam is looking in on this, perhaps she would let us know if there is a problem with previous addresses showing up instead of current ones in buyers' PayPal accounts and invoices.
Thanks.
Judy

IF there in deed was a glitch with PayPal then I would offer to split the shipping...unless it was minimal and then I would pick up the 2nd go round. However, it does depend on your margin of profit on her purchase.

Seems to me that eBay and PayPal are loosing control over their own software. Problem with counter does not really cost me any money, but how long does it take to fix a bl**dy incrementing counter???
Perhaps eBay and PayPal should think about outsourcing their software efforts to someone more competent. Any minor bug in their software might cause (and is causing) thousands or even millions transactions getting impacted. IMHO if this was happening to a bank's software, the regulatory bodies would already pressed hefty penalties and fines.
Governments (especially US) are always looking for things to control and regulate. Perhaps instead complaining to PayPal/eBay all complaints should be forwarded to some control-hungry government agency.

I've not heard of a problem with PayPal providing old and/or incorrect address information, but will see what I can find out. Let me see what I can find out.
Cheers,
Miriam

There is a setting in PayPal that will help you with your verified counter. Go into PayPal. Click on PROFILE. Then click on SELLING PREFERENCES. Then click on REPUTATION. You will see the following:
Cap Seller Reputation Number
Your Seller Reputation Number shows the number of unique Verified PayPal members who have paid you.
Would you like to cap your Seller Reputation Number at 1,000?
THERE WILL BE A YES or NO for you to select.
Select NO and your number will continue to count past 1000.
Hope this helps,
Susan

Hi Susan,
If it proves to be a glitch I will gladly pick up the cost of reshipping. I don't want the customer paying twice if it isn't her fault. I haven't heard back from her yet today.
Let me see what I can find out.
Thanks Miriam.
Btw, recently I inquired PayPal why my counter (of verified members who purchased from me) has not increased in a year although we daily get several payments from verified members. They confirmed they have a software issue that prevents it to increment the counter.
I have found the same thing, dipmicro. Mine has been stuck at 413 for a very long time.
I checked my settings as you suggested, Susan, and they are already set at No for capping them at 1000 so it must be a problem with the software.
But thanks for the info.

If you shipped to the address on the transaction page (not the eBay address) then it's almost certain the buyer didn't update their address.

I heard back from my buyer today. In both cases that I mentioned above, the buyer's previous address showed up instead of their most recent one. This new buyer has had the new address registered on eBay and PayPal for 6 years without a problem. Now suddenly her old address appears.
Hopefully this won't happen again. The first guy caught the error when he paid. This one did not find out anything was wrong until I received the package back in the mail. Now I have to foot the bill for reshipping because it is not the buyer's fault.

Your post came in at the same time as my last one recped.
I checked the address in both eBay and PayPal and it was the same. The buyer has lots of recent feedback so I tend to believe her. Otherwise something would have shown up in her feedback by now if everything was being shipped to the old address and then returned to the seller.

Thanks, but I know this, it's not the case. Our counter stopped at 202 loooong time ago and PayPal confirmed it's their problem. I don't really need it just mentioned it to illustrate the eBay/PayPal incompetence when it comes to fixing software problems.

A therapeutic MAGNA VITALO magnetic health (horse collar shaped) device. Made in 1930 in London Ontario. It's got a plug. When you plug it in, it hums and vibrates. Apparently the idea behind it was that the wearer would receive a health benefit from sitting with the collar(leather exterior) around their neck. I would not know how to market it, but I'm sure you could. $20.00 and it's yours, I bet you can sell it for a fortune, after you try it and know it works. Make it a cure for anything you want. Let me know OK??
