THANKS FOR DRIVING ANOTHER NAIL IN THE COFFIN!!

I have had an ebay.com account for several years, 2000+ Feedbacks and 1200+ Paypal transactions. now I am being told that because I reside in Canada I can either alienate 95% of my customers or "you can close your Paypal account". Is ebay Canada so insecure they have to "cut the cord" to any ebay.com embers that happen to live in Canada? I have dealt with Paypal.com and have no problems. I DO NOT WANT TO BE FORCED TO DEAL IN CANADIAN FUNDS ONLY!

I suppose it's time to look at gBUY (this is hardly a way for ebay to hold off the competition. Paypal makes up a ton of ebay profits and now they have decided to alienate most of their Canadian members (that's how high a regard we are held).

I did reply to Paypal, but it will likely be ignored .... part of my e-mail to them ...

""I have 1200+ Paypal transaction in U.S. funds, as 95% of my customers are in the U.S.

I use an ebay.com account.

I buy and sell in U.S. funds and this is going to be VERY detrimental to my business.

I maintain a U.S. address and do all my shipping from the U.S.

According to the e-mail I can close my Paypal account (gee, thanks a lot!), so this will wipe out my 1200+ transaction history (and much credibility).

Is there no option for me to maintain my Paypal.com account and deal in U.S. funds?

Look on CTS at the response given by Vaughan & Amanda.

The change will not, they say, be noticeable.

Seems that we are changing parents, not by our choice, our last name will not change and our life will not be affected in any way. Elaine

Hmm .... not noticeable? If that is the case, it would be nice to have some real answers to some of the valid concerns that have been expressed on this and other threads. I for one, have built my business and procedures around the ebay/Paypal rules and set up that existed. This will create a significant change in the way I will need to conduct my business and do need to know the details and restrictions to determine if I can work within this 'new way' or need to establish other methods of accepting payments.

Vaughan's response "I agree with your sentiments. I wish I could provide everyone with an 'official' answer to all your questions, but a representative from PayPal is much better positioned to do so. I don't want to provide any more mis-information.

Amanda's comments - " I am sorry for the confusion and inconvenience. As Vaughn mentioned the email is from PayPal. I am following up right now to ensure that members are not incorrectly responded to. I will also let you know more information as soon as I can. I have gathered your questions and presented them to the group responsible for the transition."

... not exactly comforting

I truly hope I have misread the statement and ...
- can maintain my Paypal 'as is' in U.S. Funds
- can still use my Paypal U.S. Funds debit/credit card as always
- will still be able to receive payment in U.S. funds without an currency exchange to $Cdn. (95% of my Buyers)
- and numerous other things that would change if I have misunderstand the statement.

rgilbert1:

Why don't you specify where exactly in the notice it says anything you mentioned and are concerned about. The notice clearly states "you'll be able to use PayPal in the same way you do today".

Maybe you're anticipating the worst before getting all the facts?

Why would you not?

At this time you can accept multiple currencies and maintain a balance in each currency. Why would you think that you would suddenly be restricted to one, particularly since Paypal has made the statement
"you'll be able to use PayPal in the same way you do today"

Not that I want to seem like I'm endorsing this .... I'd prefer to have the option to leave my account as it is. Ann

For the same reasons that Canadian banking regs won't let us deposit US funds from PayPal into our US funds bank account. I don't remember all the technical specs on this but something to do with the rules and country's currency or something or other.

Hey!

I emailed paypal about paypal Canada and here is what I got back....doesn't appear to be too many drastic changes that I can see...here it is...

"Hello my name is Felix, I will be happy to assist you with your question
regarding changes to the PayPal service under PayPal Canada limited.

Although most PayPal users will be able to continue using PayPal without
any change in the services, some users may notice the following:

· Members with a U.S. bank account attached to their PayPal account
may continue withdrawing funds to their US bank account
· Members with a non-U.S. or non-local bank account attached to their
PayPal account are no longer be able to withdraw funds to those bank
accounts
· Members may only add a credit or debit card whose billing address is
located in their home country
· Members who have registered credit cards with a billing address
outside their home country will have those cards automatically removed and
an opportunity to replace those cards with local cards

Thank you for being part of the PayPal community.

Sincerely,
Felix

WOW Felix, those are some pretty big changes, and so I'm wondering why Amanda didn't address this on the paypal board.?:|

So this means my present U.S. Funds Paypal card will now be useless and I need to get a Cdn. Funds Paypal card? If this is the case, I can only guess that if I use it in the U.S. I will get hit with exchange fees (the whole reason I use the card now).

I hope that doesn't mean that because I use my paypal debit card often.

I think this refers to providing a credit card number for back-up funds.
Even so, I presume your Paypal debit card has your home (canadian) billing address? Should not be affected, according to the information provided so far. Ann

Thanks. It does have my home address, and to this point my Paypal account has accepted U.S. funds; which I then use with the card as a U.S. credit/debit card for postage, gas and other spending in the U.S. My hope was that my Paypal account still remains active in U.S funds, accepting payments in U.S. funds and I am able to use my Paypal credit/debit card in the U.S. without currency conversion.

I generally can pick up on the rules; but originally there was a fairly vague e-mail, sent only to some people and now there has been some seemingly conflicting statements from representatives of Paypal in different threads.

That is why I am confused/concerned.
