Quilts You Make - or Collect - or Wish You Made or Collected :o)

It seems there are a few of us on eBay who love quilts - make quilts - collect quilts - live and breath and talk quilts.....so here is a thread for any who do.

This will be a place to discuss, show off, ask questions and/or answer them.

Please remember though - eBay's policies do not allow for self promotion/advertising our auctions.

Sooooo - :-x who's first to confess they have more fabric than their friends or husband think they really need? Besides me, that is.

I think I have been found out though. My son moved into my sewing room last summer and I thought I would get away with leaving a little bit of my stuff there. Suddenly he wants that space for building computers.
12 totes of fabric, two sewing machines and 3 shelfs of book are suddenly homeless.

If he moved into YOUR sewing room Gloria - then he should learn to live with your "collection". Maybe you need that brother-in-law to visit again and maybe - build you a sewing room all your own. Sandra had her hubby create a sewing nook in their basement and she loves it.

I have about the same amount of fabric - and it's growing (so am I *blush*)- plus books, tools, magazines, sewing machine and a serger.

I don't think we're the only ones though....I'm betting we may look like novices to some fabric-aholics out there.

Yep - he qualifies cuz he has a collection of vintage quilts (minus one that was gifted to a nice lady 😄 ) - and he has quilted pillows compliments of the same nice lady :-D:-D

Well, I'll start off with a couple of pictures...made these today using the stack and whack 18 degree ruler and some Hoffman Japanese crane/florals fabric. The fan blades are 4 inches long with seam allowances so will finish to 3 inch long pointed fan blades and I'll add a 1/4 circle to the base and then applique these to a black cotton I think - or maybe a soft blue...not quite sure yet. The background square will be 6 inches so I'll have a wall quilt top of 3 across and 5 rows to maybe use on a narrow section of wall....maybe.

Beautiful!

This is the quilt my mother in law and I just finished as a Christmas gift for a friend.
I love the scrap look and the recipient was thrilled with it.

Now that's a beauty - is that the Jewel Box pattern? You and Mrs. B. are a great team. I haven't made a bed quilt in ages - just miniatures and wall quilts mainly...I have more walls than beds and little patience as I age (not so gracefully most days) - and I want to see the end result as quickly as possible.

And you even wrote and published your own quilt book Gloria - that I find inspiring to any quilter or quilter wannabe because it is so well put together and easy to follow.

I've taught a couple of different quilt workshops over the years - but not sure if I want to do it anymore....much prefer to use my time cutting and sewing my own creations.

I think it is the Jewel Box pattern. I just did it from a picture, using my own measurements.
I think Suzann did a gorgeous one in the same pattern and that inspired me.

This is 12 of the 15 fans in a Drunkard's Path variation - not sure what color to use for the background squares when I applique them....probably use a solid in the corners...some sort of border with the coordinating fabric from that line, and then maybe quilt around them using a gold metallic thread and mimic the fan in the solid blocks with just a quilted image of the fan shape.

It's hard to see in the pics but this Hoffman fabric has gold metallic highlights throughout.

I love that arrangement, Lydia
I kind of like the white/light beige background so that the beautiful colors show up.

Instead of a black or navy??? Hmmmm, must give that some thought...found a nice very light, almost pale ivory tone on tone...wonder what that would look like as the background square...think there are some very tiny scrolls or swirls and very teeny, tiny white sprigs on it...might just work with the pattern. Thought this variation looked a little like an oriental dragon too, kind of in keeping with the Kimono fabric pattern.

That sound like it would work. I can't wait to see it.

My Mother got me started quilting many years ago and I am so glad. I have that "collection" of "can't do without" fabric. And there is a fabric store closing in my town in January, so I guess some more will have to come to my house. I am so glad for ebay to be able to sell some of what I make.

Ooooo car-lo3 - a fabric shop closing is a mixture of sad and wonderful...sad for the store owner but wonderful fabric deals for the quilter like yourself.

Share pics of your projects whenever you feel like it - it seems handwork, like knitting, crocheting and quilting, are making a comeback and whether it's machine or handquilted or country comfortable tied quilts, quilts are such cozy creations...ya just gotta love 'em.

This is a better closeup of the blocks just before I sewed them together.

Okay - so far I have appliqued hand dyed green 1/4 circles to the base of each fan then appliqued the fans to a tone on tone cream/white cotton (6 1/2 inches square) - rearranged the arrangement I showed previously (just didn't feel right) - then sewed them all together...top is 24 1/2 inches square at this point....still not sure about borders/or not or just batt/backing and bringing the backing to the front for self binding, then quilting fan images in the corner squares with multicolored metallic quilting thread etc.

I'll keep walking by for the next while and eventually something will come to me. 🐵

My weekend project.
Lydia should recognize these blocks as she sent them as a gift a long time ago.
Poor planning on my part has left me with not enough of the blue fabric but I'm hoping that Walmart still has it 😞

If no more blue will have to reconsider how to finish these.
