SHIPPING TO BRAZIL - Any alternatives?

I am starting to get a lot of customers from Brazil and I am quite happy about it. However, their postal system is somewhat unreliable...

Shipping Small Packet Air with Canada Post to that country, I have a really high amount of complaints that the items are not received after 3 or even 4 weeks, about 30% to 50% of them. I'm getting worried. Is it theft? Slow Custioms processing? Is it fraud?

I'm thinking about shipping Xpresspost only, which provides tracking, but at a cost of around $45 to $50 for shipping a box weighing less than a kilogram, I doubt anyone be willing to pay it.

Am I the only one with this kind of experiences? Does anyone know any cheaper alternatives for shipping to Brazil and other South American countries?

SHIPPING TO BRAZIL - Any alternatives?

I have only had one shipment to Brazil and it was very slow but it did make it. I would mention that to the buyers that shipping is slow but that the item is fully insured.

Really...

Well I don't want to cut-off the market altogether, I have had some success there, but right now for example I have $300 in dispute for non-receipt and it really hurts.

I will only be offering Xpresspost International at the moment, just going to take a while before I can update all the listings...

Thanks!

I have been doing "mail order" for over 40 years, and Brazil has always been an "iffy" destination. Many items from many dealers have gone astray over the years, even if sent registered mail.

Sucks because they are really starting to spend money over there. We could tap into that market if we had some better shipping options... The americans won't touch it, it's all open for us.

If only there was a decent, cost efficient service. I'd be ready to invest in translating my listings in portuguese. But not with the current shipping problems.

SHIPPING TO BRAZIL - Any alternatives?

I have sent a few packages to Brazil and they have arrived to destination with no problem. But it may take longer to time to arrive. I suggest when entering custom tag to indicate smaller value not more then $20.00 canadian so dosen't get stolen from brazilian postal.

The problem i have with indicating a lower value is that if the item gets lost, Paypal is not going to refund you, and the only claim you can get from CP is equivalent to the value you indicated on the package. So if you ship a $100 item and value it as $20 and it doesn't get delivered, you are down $80...

I tell my customers that I will only do it if they use a payment method other than Paypal.

I have shipped many parcels to brazil, and roughly 5% of them get 'lost'. The other 95% arrive just fine. Sometimes it is slow, true, but the Brazilian customers are usually quite used to that.

If you devalue the parcel for Customs, PayPal doesn't know, so you can claim your full amount. You are correct about Canada Post. You are defrauding the Brazilian government, however.

????

PayPal have no interest in your lost packages unless the buyer files a complaint. In that case they just take the money back from you.

John,
what kind of items/price range are you shipping to Brazil?

I ship watches in a US$40 to $100 bracket and I "loose" almost 50% of the packages, even if I describe the item as "Horological instrument"

Have you tried label them as "orologeria" ?
