Send to Nigeria Scammers eBay tells me.

I sell a few peices of technology here and there.

Recently, I sold a laptop and get an email afterwards apologizing but asking if I would ship it to a 'unconfirmed in paypal' address.

I refuse, fill out the usual paperwork to cancel the transaction then get an email from eBay saying that the request was cancelled and I indeed should ship the $400USD+ item to Nigeria.

The payment was made with extra to cover the shipping .. It looks clear but what would you do?

Re: Send to Nigeria Scammers eBay tells me.

so I tried calling ebay to see who is going to cover the cost if this is a scam.. and the customer service phone number asks me to click on 'live help'

I click on 'live help' and get a 'Due to severe weather in one of our Customer Support locations, Live Chat is currently understaffed and experiencing far longer than normal wait times, some in excess of an hour'

Is this how eBay treats their Power Sellers? Do you know of any other business that treats their customers this badly?

What a joke.

Re: Send to Nigeria Scammers eBay tells me.

Your request was canceled because the buyer refused to agree and eBay has sided with them.

I don't sell high fraud risk items so I will let someone more experienced answer that question BUT...you can block people from certain countries from bidding on your items. This is not the same as excluding Nigeria from your ship to list. You must specifically block them. If Nigeria is a hot spot for scammers then block bidders from there.

Hope this helps!

I would refuse to ship.

Scammers don't make complaints , file INR's or leave negs.

I would not ship and move on and save myself $400.00. And good idea to block Nigeria from your selling list.

Re: Send to Nigeria Scammers eBay tells me.

They have a USA and Canadian mailing address (po boxes)

could be legit but sounds fishy.

I sent it and if it goes belly up, I'll be banging on eBays door on St. Clair Ave. with a hammer and can of bright orange spray paint.

Re: Send to Nigeria Scammers eBay tells me.

if it goes belly up

The chances are quite high that the above will happen, unfortunately.

Nigeria and consumer electronics..... and old and ongoing saga.

US and CA PO boxes are a give-away as is the request to ship to an alternate address.

Nigeria has such a bad rap that legitimate businesses there avoid anything that might arouse suspicion.

When we sold video game consoles years ago, over half the auctions were hijacked by scammers with the inevitable email "could you please ship to..."

Hopefully, you had the thing insured for full value and can then file a claim with Canada Post.

Better would have been if you had shipped to the address that was confirmed with Paypal as PP does offer some protection against fraud if you follow their rules.

Do let us know how this transaction evolves.

That whole system is simply automated. You open the cancel sale case, the buyer refuses, you automatically get the email saying that they don't want to cancel it. It still comes down to you making your own best judgment on shipping.

Re: Send to Nigeria Scammers eBay tells me.

yeah.. it's the stupidist thing ever.

what I did was insure it to the 9's, I requested a signature with photo ID upon shipment.

The buyer has 100% feedback and does have several confirmed addresses.

I'm just more p.o.'d at PP and eBay for saying that I should send it to an unconfirmed address when they STRESS OVER AND OVER again not to do that.

Just so that they can make the $55 on the deal.

Re: Send to Nigeria Scammers eBay tells me.

Wow - eBay should award you the titanium powerseller based on this alone.:-)

the only qualification:

Successfully sell, get paid for and ship an electronics item to Nigeria valued at at least $400!
