Should eBay BAN ALL "Power Seller logos" in an auction's description?

I have run into many auctions where the seller displays a POWER SELLER logo IN THEIR AUCTION'S DESCRIPTION, and the seller is clearly not a Power Seller- WITH NO LOGO NEXT TO THEIR NAME- AS REQUIRED by eBay.
Sales over that past 30 days are easy to check, and Rules and Safety are very good about verifying these facts.

Some sellers even brag about being GOLD, or even TITANIUM Power Sellers- and their items, and sales, clearly do not indicate that- even when they are correctly displaying the Power Seller Icon logo next to their name.
There is little to indicate the level of a Power Seller, other than a lot of research of past sales. Unlike the Rating Star, which is a clear indication, by colour, of attained status.

Well- for what it's worth- and I am generally not in favour of more regulation at eBay- HOWEVER- maybe it's time eBay BAN all POWER SELLER logos, and references in auction descriptions.

It's been many years since eBay imposed restrictions on what third party advertising, and links are allowed. And further, restrictions were placed on the size of those third party ads.

Maybe it's time to take the BIG STEP, and BAN ALL POWER SELLER logos, other than the one that eBay provides, that may be voluntarily turned on/off by the seller. At this point eBay should take the opportunity to create- like the rating stars- different colour POWER SELLER logos to differentiate between categories of POWER SELLERS.

Any thoughts?

eBay does NOT require you to display the Power Seller logo next to your ID. You can choose not to display it next to your name and still post the logo as given by eBay in your listings. It would defeat the purpose if you choose not to display it beside your name, but to each their own.

You can only see the past 30 days. How do you know that in the past 40 days or so they sold a high ticket item? You can't. I don't think it's fair for someone to be judged without knowing all of the facts. eBay calculates PS status on a 3 month average. That means you can sell something for $3000 in the first month and only $100 in each month afterwards to maintain status. You look and only see the $100 but don't really know the full situation.

For the few that are bad, everyone should pay the penalty?

If someone is violating the EXISTING rules, then eBay should apply the rules as they exist and kick off that seller. Dont make new rules not to be enforced by eBay, they cant even apply the rules they have already laid out in stone for all of us to follow.

jakeeangel - I believe you are simply mistaken in your understanding of the displaying of eBay Power Seller's logos. While we as sellers have the OPTION of displaying the Power Seller logo next to our name- the display of a Power Seller logo in our descriptions WITHOUT the display of PS logo next to our name is not permitted.

ACCORDING TO eBay:

Can I use the PowerSeller logo in my listing description?

Yes, registered PowerSellers can use the PowerSellers logo in their eBay listings or About Me or Store pages or your primary website outside of eBay. However, if you would like to use the PowerSeller logo in your listings or the other places mentioned above, you must agree to have the your PowerSeller icon displayed next to your feedback score. This will enable other members to identify legitimate PowerSellers easier. Any use of the PowerSeller logo must also link to the PowerSeller program page. For any questions about your permission to use the Power Sellers logo, please log in to the PowerSeller Portal and click on the Logo & Icon

shoplineca- I agree that eBay SHOULD enforce its existing rules. However, eliminating any extra logos would prevent any questions of authenticity. And besides, can anyone show any value in adding additional Power Seller logos to your copy, beyond the one provided by eBay?

I dont use any additional PS logos as I dont believe they increase my sales that much anyway. People see what you are selling, believe they can get it for a good price, they will bid and hopefully purchase it.

I am always attracted by the item first, and then the opportunity I believe I can get it at a good price, and then I look at whether the seller is in the US or Canada and how he will ship (UPS and I may have to pay high brokerage, and then how much the Seller charges for shipping, and then I check out the Seller. I am more interested in the comments and FB (not even whether he/she has 100% or 95%) but more the reason for the negs and how recently (has there been an increasing trend etc. If he has a PS logo, well that is the last thing I would consider.

So in the end, the PS logo for me has little merit in whether I bid on an item.

This is interesting as I never thought this all the way thru until now. I think I will start a thread to see what others do.

I posted this THREE+ years ago.
And, now as eBay tinkers again with its POWER SELLER rules- maybe it's time to revisit my original comments.

1) eBay should prohibit ANY display of the POWER SELLER logo outside of the one provided at the top of an auction. (NO additional display allowed)

2) eBay should create, like STAR RATINGS, different POWER SELLER logos/icons to differentiate between the different levels of POWER SELLER status.
