So how much will the polls change?

The Federal Gov't announced their Income splitting and new tax credits on Oct. 30/14 as a press release.

As of Oct.31/14 the weighted average of all the polls had these results:

Liberals: 35%

Conservatives: 29%

NDP: 23%

http://www.threehundredeight.com/p/canada.html

If the new tax measures have the desired effect that the Conservatives hope for then these poll numbers should change to favor the

Conservatives. If they don't, they just threw away 4 years of surpluses.

I suspect the polls will change when they mail out all the chequs next July ( holding back the first 6 months until just before the election ). Smiley LOL

People have always sold themselves off. For some it's a government cheque. For another it was 30 pieces of silver.

I just think back to one thing I read where they were saying that the largest portion of families that would benefit from the income splitting would be in AB and the smallest portion is in QC, with more 2-earner families, presumably because of low cost daycare. So looks like this policy is more playing to Harper's base. Not too sure how it shakes out in ON but you have to think that sooner or later most people will realize that they are part of the 90% who are paying for the extra steaks at the head table!

If the poll numbers move at all in Harper's favour, it may be more due to all the continued "feel good" hyperbole over the Parliament shooting and some temporary ~overflow of glory~ from the Sergeant-of-Arms into Harper's closet hiding spot.

The Keystone pipeline just got a boost last night, Republicans now fully control Congress. They favour non reliance on foreign oil.

Keystone would be a boost to the Conservatives.

What is your definition of "foreign" ? Overseas?

Back to the polling. If what Art says is true, that most winners in this income splitting plan come from Alberta, then Harper isn't gaining anything from the Billions he'll spend. They already vote Conservative.

I expect the Conservatives to gain several points in the polls over the next few months.  Most likely enough to gain the lead over the Liberals by January, as the government announces more tax cuts or tax advantages for the rich and the "middle class" (whatever that means).

So many factors recently favour some Canadians changing their voting preferences towards the governing party, including the results of the mid-term election yesterday in the USA (strong move to the right).

However, the federal election in Canada is not until next October.

Sentiment may change when Canadian voters realize their votes are being purchased with their own money.  The long promised federal budgetary surplus may not materialize as it has been given away as "tax breaks" to high income earners and the "middle class".  There will be no extra money left in the federal coffers to provide money for new programs targeted to the average Canadians and those in need.

The opinion tide may also change when - unfortunately - our six month military initiative in the Middle East does not go as planned.

At some time Canadians may wake up to the fact that they are not better off in 2015 than they were when Harper was first elected to power (high income earners and large corporations excepted).

Friend --

It takes a massive team effort to accomplish what we did in just ten days. You are an integral part of our Liberal team -- and I simply can’t thank you enough for making our October fundraising drive a success.

What’s more, we raised 3.3 million dollars in all of Q3. But this is an election year -- our most important job lies ahead. And the Conservatives outraised us by almost one million dollars and had 248 more donors last quarter.

Friend -- our opponents aren’t letting up and neither can we. Donate $3 now to give us the edge we’l...

Thank you.

Foreign overseas of course. And what better timing for Keystone with the Middle East in a state of war.
Re Art comment: The more populated provinces that will reap the benefits and vote Conservative will be Ontario and Quebec.

"...Quebec vote Conservative..."

haha - not likely - in fact with the new "Forces et Démocratie" federal party launched a couple of weeks ago by a former Bloq and a former NDP MP, who knows, Harper's paltry QC presence could be eroded down to a blip.

Interestingly, "Forces et Démocratie" has a principle that MPs should represent their constituents first, rather than the party. Hmmm I wonder if the founders could find any common ground with Rathsgeber in Alberta?? Ha - that would be so awesome if they ever got together!

What would also be awesome would be if someone started up a new Reform or Pro Life party in Alberta. Harperism has fulfilled virtually none of Preston Manning's original vision. In fact Harper's corruption and subversion of Parliament must send chills up Manning's spine.

Anyway... besides the point that Quebecers are more likely to have 2-earner families, people here simply have no tolerance for Harper Conservatism and will never believe that he has anything in mind for the middle class other than part-time jobs at Dollarama.

Or, maybe an overseas job, like say an all-expenses paid trip to Iraq...

Too bad Art, the planets are all aligned in Srevies favour.

1) great family plan

2) Keystone looks likely

3) low CDN$ great for our exports (economy)

4) able to raise sinificantly more contributions than the Libs

5) appears the Republicans may throw out the Democrats next election

???

That would be against the law, would it not?

The same law that was enacted by Stephen Harper.  Bill C16 "An Act to Amend the Canada Elections Act" received Royal assent on May 3rd, 2007.

When introducing the legislation, Harper stated that "fixed election dates prevent governments from calling snap elections for short-term political advantage. They level the playing field for all parties and the rules are clear for everybody."

Do you really expect Stephen Harper to break the law so openly?

Oh my trouble in the Liberal camp! Reads like some unwanted hanky panky going on but we'll have to wait to know for sure.

Two Liberals MPs ejected over ‘personal misconduct’ allegations Scott Andrews and Massimo Pacetti are out of caucus because of allegations Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau calls “serious.”

OTTAWA — Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau has expelled two MPs — Scott Andrews and Massimo Pacetti — over allegations of “personal misconduct” with two members of Parliament.

Sources tell the Star the complainants are female MPs from the New Democratic Party.

Liberals are asking the Commons Speaker to conduct an investigation into a controversy described as “unprecedented.” Both accused MPs deny the charges.

At a news conference Wednesday afternoon, Trudeau called the allegations “serious” but said little to shed light on the matter.

“Persons in authority have a duty to act when such allegations are made,” he said

The expulsions plunge Parliament Hill into the centre of the widening national discussion over sexual assault, which began last week with the firing of CBC host Jian Ghomeshi.

This might be the tip of the iceberg.

There were some very candid interviews on Power and Politics. From what some said,  Ottawa is a hotbed of drinking and sexual affairs.

It also appears that the 2 people who complained ( one who went directly to Trudeau ) did not expect that their allegations would be taken so seriously by him that he would expel his members and ask for an investigation.

Men are sexually attracted to women because that's the way nature wired us for procreation. Most leave it to thoughts only.

It's got so bad that soon sexual harassment will cover looking at a women considered to be the wrong way.
