Weird glitch last night on the ebay mobile app

I updated my ebay app on my iPhone last night for the first time in more than a year.

What a mistake that was. Still no adequate support for sellers. Why does it max out at 600 items when I have 1,000+? Plus, there's all this trash now on my screen that I don't want or need with no way to opt out like existed in previous versions. I'm stuck looking at Deals and Featured Junk and Google ads.... no wonder buyers find better things to do than shop on ebay. The app stinks. And it keeps getting stinkier with each update. Ebay needs to stop and think about what BUYERS want to see on ebay, not what it wants buyers to see.

Anyway, while I was desperately searching for places in the settings to turn this junk off, I cleared my Recently Viewed Items since it was simply more junk on my already-cluttered screen. And then this appeared. My Recently Viewed Items went from stuff i had looked at to -- flash -- a blank screen to -- flash -- a pile of antique clocks.

I've got nothing against clocks, I just don't happen to be in the market for any at this point in time (or ever in history) so where did this come from? Whose clocks are these? What other member's Recently Viewed list was morphed into my account? How and why? I find this kind of creepy and weird.

And today, no matter how many times I clear the Recently Viewed folder on the app, it pops right back. The items I just cleared re-appear like a game of Whack-A-Mole. I want my old app back, waaaaaah!

Interesting.  I have seen on the computer the Recently Viewed and where it usually shows items I looked at I am now getting items I didn't.  Items of clothing that I never ever look at because we never need to buy clothes through eBay.  It won't go away.  Every time I log in those "recently viewed" items of clothing are there, large silk shirts mostly, as if someone else went shopping on my computer or account but neither is possible.  Maybe those items were "recently viewed" somewhere only not by ME.   🙂

That's just it. Someone has 'recently viewed' those items but ebay thinks it was you. Or me. In my case, a history of looking at antique clocks that sold at auction. But, I would assume, recently viewed items are determined by browser history and/or cookies or some combination of the two. These things should not be getting mixed up between user accounts. It worries me that they are.

Maybe one of the tech-savvy Discussion Board users can explain a likely scenario whereby something like this can happen without it necessarily being a sign of something ominous. Until then, I am somewhat concerned about it. I don't really understand enough about it, so I can only make assumptions based on what little I know.

I doubt it is anything ominous. Unless you consider poorly designed apps and monkeys coding them to be ominous.

Ever since eBay went from version 3 of the Android app over a year ago, it has been a total piece of **bleep**.

Apparently they tried to combine the Android and i-phone versions into one platform and produced a total mess.

Whoever was responsible for that abomination should have been fired. They are probably in upper management by this point.

I've kept the old version of the app and turned off updates so I don't get the new one by accident.

I'll keep using it until eBay does something to make it no longer work. They've already screwed up mobile searches but then eBay screwing up searching is standard operating procedure.

"I've got nothing against clocks"

Maybe this is eBay's "artificial intelligence" determining that you have a deep secret yearning for German clocks?

When I clear the Recently Viewed Items I don't get anything showing up.

But I'm using the old 3.0.0.19 Android version which actually worked and was the last good version before they trashed the app.

I don't know anything about iPhones but maybe it is possible to reinstall a previous version?
