What happens when seller leaves ebay after you pay for something?

Bought a item, and now few hours later the ebay member is not a member of ebay. I don't know what to do next, because when i go to the resolution centre and put in the item number they can't find it. How do i know if i will even get this item now, and how can i get my money back? thanks

Is the item showing in your ebay purchase history? If so, you can file a claim through there but you probably won't be able to do that until after the estimated delivery date. If it isn't showing there, you can file a claim through paypal. After filing the claim I would phone paypal and explain that the seller is no longer registered with ebay.

You might also want to try phoning ebay about it. (google the phone number) If the seller is 'not a registered member' that means that ebay took them off for some reason. There is no way that a seller can become unregistered that quickly.

The seller didn't 'leave'.

He was kicked out.

EBay and Paypal are usually pretty helpful about this.

Follow PJs advice.

Paypal has very strong Buyer Protection.

And you also have the protection of the credit card you backed your PP account with.

Re: What happens when seller leaves ebay after you pay for something?

There are 2 problems with googling the eBay phone number.  First is that a website giving a US number may be inadvertently chosen, and that usually is not a toll-free option from Canada.  Second is that you cannot get the one-time passcode that helps to direct your call to the correct department.  There are significantly longer waits without the passcode, and you cannot choose the "Call Me" option.  It is faster to use "Help & Contact" at the top or bottom of any eBay page, and choose the scenario specific to your needs.

In the OPs case, choosing contact ebay>buying>contacting the seller>call us will provide the number and one-time passcode.  I find the "Call Me" choice to be a very good option - no long waiting times, and a savings for users of certain cell phone plans.  The "Call Me" option is only available for certain choices.  If you prefer it, try other reasons until that option is available.

Re: What happens when seller leaves ebay after you pay for something?

I've never found it difficult to find a phone number but many buyers have reported that they just get taken round and round in circles on the help pages and can't find a phone number. Perhaps the system has been improved in that way?

Since we are all phoning the same help centers I hadn't thought about them having separate numbers for U.S. users versus Canadian users. Thank you for mentioning that.
