Okay I've been trying to get an answer on this one and so far no luck! I'm noticing ALOT of U.S. sellers now have 'May not ship to Canada' as part of their ebay listing (and this is an ebay option, not something they've typed in themselves). My question is what is the reason for ebay providing this option? I mean either they are going to ship or not going to ship to Canada..what's with 'may not'? Ordinarily I would ask first but this now seems redundant...I've asked some and they say NO...I've asked others and they say YES...I've even had some say 'it says I ship to Canada in my listing'??? This listing option is not helpful at all. And to top it all off...I just bought an item from a U.S. buyer who also had the 'may not' statement with no problem, now I've just tried to put a bid in on another 'may not' seller item and this time I get an ebay screen which is preventing me from bidding stating 'Sorry this item cannot be shipped to Canada'??? What gives?

This 20 dollar limit on import fees business. Simply it isn't true.Straight off gov't site...."Because of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), Canadians do not have to pay duty on most American & Mexican manufactured items."
Occasionally if something you ordered is coming from the US but was made in another country & the seller imported it to resell, then sometimes if someones being really picky they might charge.
However the gov't has to make a min amount off the charge or they don't bother.
Think about when your traveling and come back into Canada & on the plane you fill out your customs declaration, we have a 10 grand free grace before duty charges kick in and we pay anything.

There are very few items which require duty, but the $20 limit applies to taxes...

Do you ever wonder why ebay sellers aren't thriving?
Yes, the economy, especially in the States is suffering, but consumers are still finding the money in droves to buy every new kind of device the computer companies offer up.
Everyone's on line everywhere. Older people are using computers more and more and kids live on line at the store, on their walks, even in the cars........
In other words, more people have access to ebay and are comfortable with on line buying than ever before.
Ebay sellers should be reporting huge increases in sales as the masses get more comfortable with that kind of buying........
but yet.......... even though buyer protections are in place left right and centre ......... the opposite is true.
What's wrong with that picture?

They may have had a bad experience shipping to a Canadian buyer.
No difference if a Canadian chooses not to ship to an International buyer in a risky country.
Their choice, our choice, whether it is fair or not.
Like Pierre has mentioned in the past "and life does move on."

It is possible that US seller don't have that options when they try to list any items for the first time. It happened to me when I want to list my items on eBay.com and it took me over 1 hour to try to include the shipping information for Canada and International and I gave up.
I revised it and bingo, the option for Canada and International shipping came up!
It didn't came up on the item page for the first time. It is possible that US sellers went through the same thing.
I did asked about 80% of them if they would ship to Canada, and all of them said yes and I expalined about revising their listings to include the Canada information and they were able to do.
It may be nothing to do with tracking and TRS for those sellers.
I knew one US sellers that sell a lot of items to Canada than to any Americans and she is not worrying about tracking or TRS as she is not using tracking or eBay Shipping which is about 4-5 times higher than what she can pay at the post office in person. She said she is NOT willing to abide by eBay's requirements like to use eBay Shipping or Global Shipping Program or whatever they are offering to her as she has tooooo many Canadian buyers and is not willing to lose the Canadian buyers just because of eBay says so!!
She said that if she is using eBay Shipping &/or Global Shipping Program, she would lose 100% of Canadian buyers, so she thumped her nose to eBay's so-called offers like 50% final value fees!! For her to lose her Canadian buyers at 100% is worse than not having 50% final value fees!! So what eBay is offering to US sellers is not realistic or feasible, only is causing them to lose business and paying more $$$ to eBay for what?!!
Hope eBay will "retire" the Global Shipping Program like they "retire" eBucks to Canada!

I live in Canada. I was given an eBay.com gift certificate for Christmas. USELESS. I finally selected something just to use up the **bleep** thing.from the small selection of items LOCATED IN CANADA. 'May not ship to Canada' is the US theme song for eBay.com. eBay.ca is pathetic. Mainly junk from Hong Kong or China. I used to love eBay.com and dealt successfully with US vendors.I have requested NO FURTHER GIFT CERTS FOR EBAY - I don't need the frustration.

I guess filling out that Customs declaration label is to hard for some of them to do down there. Its ridiculous!

The problem is Sellers are getting gouged by Ebay who are further gouged by Paypal and then they are gouged again by Pitney Bowes who they want the sellers to use. This entire system is set up to gouge buyers and sellers so the Sellers are coming up with their own limits on who they sell to and by selling to buyers in the US, they don't get gouged with the additional shipping costs provided by Pitney Bowes. Everyone gets a piece of the action and those that get a piece, kick back a piece which brings this entire mess to where buyers and sellers are just saying "Forget about it". Mob mentality is catching in more ways than most want to deal with.

Ebay has blocked me from bidding on certain items and it just so happens it happens with private sellers trying to make a buck. I have had more experiences now with US sellers not having their items being able to be sold to Canada because ebay wants to charge extra handling charges and remit tax directly to Canada Revenue. All this is done so bbay rips the little guy off with all these extra charges. Time now to give up on ebay and just purchase in Canada. ebay is going down hill fast i even hate do do price checks on ebay anymore ...... to bad i have purchased 1000's of dollars worth of items approx 400 purchases so far and its just getting too frustrating to get my messages blocked and refusal to bid notices because I am in Canada. Stupid Just Plain Stupid

I'm a US Seller on Ebay and have the Global Shipping Program. I had a customer from Canada who wanted to purchase one of the items I have for sale and it said my item was not available to ship to Canada (it is, however, available to the UK). Of course, I placed NO such restriction on this item so I called up Ebay. Well, apparently it is now their policy that the Global Shipping Program will not allow Buy it Now items valued under $25 to qualify for Canadian destinations. This is SILLY. Most action figures are under $25.
