I tend to ask the seller before I pay. Usually it's anywhere from 3-10 days.

Sorry I ask before I bid. Lots of sellers have given me a week or so after asking. All the sellers I've dealt with will work with you.

You should pay as soon as possible after the end of the listing as sellers are able to open an unpaid item dispute as soon as 4 days after the listing ends. If you need more time to pay,you should contact the seller before bidding or using buy it now to get permission for a longer payment time.

Sellers like to be paid immediately.  If you know in advance that you may be unable to do that, the courteous thing to do is make the inquiry first.  No seller likes to be told after a listing ends, 'Oh by the way I can't pay for 10 days'.  If you are considerate of their feelings, however, sellers may refrain from opening that Unpaid Item dispute, at least for a few days. 😉
