Hello. You need to pay the shipping cost you agreed to pay when you bid/bought/made offer. If the item is really big, but not worth a lot, (ex. bicycle for $40 USD with $60 USD in S&H) then the shipping cost should be more than the item.

Of course, if you won the item and the seller invoiced you for more than they had in the listing, you should contact them about this.

If you really really need to cancel the order, you need to contact the seller by going to the listing and clicking the "Ask a question" at the bottom of the description. Here is where the button is found:

undefined

After you click the button/link, tell the seller your problem and that you need THEM to cancel the order for you.

I hope this helps.

The cost of an item has no connection to the cost of shipping.

Shipping rates are based on dimensions, weight, level of service and distance.

It is up to the buyer to look at both the asking price of the item that interests him and at the cost of shipping to Canada.

To Canada is very important, because many sellers will not ship outside the USA.

And many of those that will use the Global Shipping Program* which charges Canadian duty and sales tax plus a $5 service charge before shipping.

The GSP is not visible on mobiles.

While shopping on your phone is fun, only buy from a laptop or desktop.

Well, you can ask the seller if she will be nice enough to cancel your order.

She'll probably add you to the Blocked Bidder List. You know that sellers pay to sell here right?

If she does not agree, she can open an Unpaid Item Dispute. If you don't pay that, you get a Strike which can add you to the Blocked Bidder List of thousands of sellers, making it hard to bid on eBay.

*The GSP is a Seller Protection Program. Yes, it's legal. It's actually mandatory for Pitney Bowes who run the program.

Hello 'monibiss',

<< bought an item on ebay but shipping is more expensive than the item so I didn't pay. How do I cancel this>>

You, as a buyer, cannot cancel your purchase.  You have to very sweetly ask the seller to do it for you.  Perhaps you can explain in your apology that you are new and have not yet got the hang of ebay.

If the seller agrees and sends a Cancellation request, the instant you click to agree and confirm it, you will be off the hook and no longer expected to pay.

In future, place desired items in you Watch List, and then find a real computer on which to carefully view the listings to be certain you want to buy them.

And something to keep in mind, -- there really is no correlation between item price and shipping cost.  The question to ask yourself is if the total cost (adding up all the charges) reasonable for the item.

You might one day win an auction for 99cents.  Obviously the shipping cost will have to be more than that.

If, however, your present seller has his listings set up to automatically file an Unpaid Item case, your choice then will be to pay up or get a strike on your record.  Ebay takes non-payment very seriously.  That is why it is so important to 'Watch List' your items until you are absolutely committed to following through with payment.

Best of luck Smiley Happy
