I sold an item that is to be shipped for free from china to usa, buyer sent me note asking if there is any way to get it before xmas.I would have to ship it expedited to get it there by xmas. This costs $9.00 (more than my profit LOL) What can I do , I am sure customer would pay the extra fee but how do I reset the order or whatever to add on fee for shipping since customer has already paid ?

No problem.
While a seller cannot demand more money for shipping, a buyer can ask for a different shipping service and the seller can charge him a reasonable amount for it.
However,
This sound fishy to me. Not many Chinese celebrate Christmas. Some but not many.
Send your buyer a corrected invoice (don't hit Recalculate) or if necessary just send him a Paypal invoice noting that this is an eBay sale and noting the transaction number. He will be covered by PP's Buyer Protection and you by eBay's Seller Protection.
And be sure to tell him that while this service is faster, you cannot guarantee arrival in time for Christmas. There is a note tothat effect on canadapost.ca.
I believe the last day for international shipping by Air Mail, for Christmas arrival was mid-November.

Umm- you're shipping electronic games to China? Seriously?
This is getting fishier than a day at Marineland.

Oh, you are dropshipping from China!
Makes more sense.
But you cannot trust your supplier to follow through on any instructions you send him.
Tell your customer that it is not possible and offer a Mutual Cancellation if he is okay with that. If he isn't and doesn't pay, you can go for an Unpaid Item Dispute which would prevent him from leaving negative feedback.
Anything that goes wrong with a dropshipping sale will hurt you and never the supplier.
Sell what you know; Know what you sell.
And do your own shipping of product that you have on hand.
